I personally like brian, glenn is a fool and an a kisser for the gulicks, tuffy is a joke, Michele is the only one that knows how to dispatch. I was out for 8 weeks when I got to my brothers house , I took 5 days off, youd think I just commited a crime, the goon glenn, told me you never run you take to much time off. Ive been doing this for 50+ years and 40 all 48 as an 0/0 and this bed bugger tells me I don't run long enough. No maybe not for these low lifes but Ive never had a ticket on my license ever. They don't care about safe drivers, they just want runners and non speaking English drivers they can run the hell out off. Your right, they are headed for a huge law suit when one of their log book violating robots runs over somebody, lets see what glenn and brian have to say about running them illegal, im sure they will step up to the plate and tell the truth about how gulick operates

I have no love for Gulick, I have been an O/O for over 11 years. So many things you have been saying is just wrong. The trucks are not over priced they are within the market cost compared with other sales. Safety does its job, Dispatch works for me doing what I ask them to do. If they do not do their job that I pay them to do (I am an O/O that is leased on to Gulick trucking) then they hear about it. I do not yell or scream I talk with them and send emails. Many of the pple in the office need to learn that it is not about them, it is about the Customers (the hauls we carry). The rates are a bit low from some other companies that I have seen however they are hit it and load it loads for the most part. The loads that go to no place in OK or wherever do pay well which is why you are attacked to them, but the loads coming back out suck if any at all. That is why you have to "plan" your business. Make no mistake it is YOUR business not gulick's. If you did not run YOUR business well then that is too bad for you. I treat them with respect and they treat me with respect. I have stood in that office listen to other drivers yelling at the dispatcher about this or that, not understand that the dispatch did not organize this load, set up this load or lie to the broker about the weight. Yes I had a load of wine I picked up they said it was 35K turns out that was 35K product not including the glass, made it a 45K load almost could not haul it.
Gulick however pays 80% of the rate and 100% of the fsc, I have yet to find any other company out there that pays that. many will not tell you, or just gives you a base mileage pay or they pay 75% and 90%FSC.
So ##### on jubajajo1 but remember it was YOUR business that failed to be managed properly, no one elses. For the record I bring in profit over 5K every 2 weeks after all my payments. -
80% of what? do they show your the original rate sheet, with the rate they are charging?
They got government grants to buy those crappy Volvos and sell them to lease purchase fools for 1500-2000k every 2 weeks plus insurance and workers comp.
You cant refuse a load, they say you can, if you dont youll sit for another one
Some dispatchers get money gifts etc from drivers to get them the best paying loads
They shutdown at 445 every Friday and if you need someone, good luck
They told me my 2000KW was to old and I needed to upgrade but they still have older petes running for them
Im glad your happy there and it works for you but I don't lie sir, the proof is in the safersys.org website, checkout their HOS score, and decide for yourself, numbers don't lie.
If you ever wonder why your prepass isn't working in most states, you know the one your paying for, its because gulick is on the hit list of unsafe drivers and HOS violations and log book violations, why is that do you think?
In case you don't know how to use the system google safersys.org , go to company snapshot click it type in name gulick click to find their name click and go check their HOS almost a 75 and requires an intervention HOS means your driving to many hours and lying on your logs and they caught you , they've already been audited by Oregon and Washington.Last edited: Nov 23, 2013

First off I know how to use the system you speak of and I know that it is bad, that is why I do preventive maintenance on my truck as much as I can, and I use DDL so my log book is prefect every time they look at it, I am not afraid to be pulled into the scale, and kind of snicker when they do pull me in. It has been over a 9 months from the last time I was pulled in, and I had no problem sailed thru. That is how I run my business, I do not pay for the prepass because I do not use it.
I do not know why you are calling me a liar where did I lie about anything at all about their safety record, other then saying safety is doing their job. You may have taken Glenns advise as a personal assault do not know what he actually told you but I am sure you are playing it up so you can make a point. Sounds like Glenn was tring to inform you that you needed to run more. Tell me sir honestly on your settlement what does it say you paid per week for mileage in taxes. if its less then 3000 (3000miles divided by 60mph is just 50 hours of drive time(3000/60=50))miles then he was right you might be taking to much time off. 50 hours of drive time in a truck these days is nothing and easy to do.
The older trucks in the fleet is why we having some of our problems with saferstats right now but part of that is the hardly out of school inspectors that mark down every little burp for an air leak.
Lastly, you question the rates. Did you ever once ask one of the brokers to be bcc'ed the rate confirmation to make sure the rate was correct. It is your business and kindly explaining to them that you just wish to double check that every thing was on the up and up most brokers will happily bcc you the rate email. Again it is YOUR business. Calling up the broker and demanding the rate that they are ACTUALLY paying Gulick will get you laughed at and most likely told no.
Finally Funding
No results found for "government funding for new semi". Search from google there is no program to help finance new trucks. There was for California instate out of the port, but that has ended long ago. On this I will call ######## and you do not know what you are talking about. Yes Gulick can get better price from the bank then you and I can but that is because they have the history and better pricing from Volvo that is because of buying power. Once again walk into the ladies in the office and ask to see the purchase price on the truck you are driving.
Hope this helps Gulick is rather a good company with several problems, can anyone show me a company that does not have problems?
Remember it "IS" your business to run not anyone else's
PS btw yes if you refuse a load you will have to sit and wait for another one. I think everyone can say that honestly. Gulick is not that organized to make you sit because you did not take a load.Last edited: Nov 23, 2013

The benefits of increased fuel economy in your heavy-duty truck fleet are numerousand so are the equipment costs. And now, there are government financial incentives to help you fit new trucks and equipment upgrades into your budget.
To that end, weve put together this comprehensive guide to provide all of the information and resources you need to get started. It explains the benefits of implementing fuel-saving technologies, the types of financial incentives available, eligibility requirements and how to start the process to obtain funds. It also provides a comprehensive breakdown of all programs offered at a federal, regional and state level, complete with important details, contact information and where you can learn more. -
Yes I did ask for a proof of delivery costs for every load and had no trouble with finding out what the actual rate of payment was, gulick didn't like me asking their accounts but sir, under the truth in lending laws and owner operator requirements they are required to show you the actual rate quote, check with ooida if you think this is bs they have sued many companies for failing to disclose their actual rates if your being paid a % of the load, I ran 5 to 7 weeks at a time and would take 4-5 days off, The IRS regs state to be an 0/0 you must be able to select your loads and not have forced dispatch. You sound to me like someone that doesn't have an actual home to live in, its your truck. So I think truckers will see through what your saying, you call yourself an 0/0 but you take whatever load they give you, you don't see the rate sheets and your probably fleece purchasing one of their Volvos.I ran for them for quite awhile before they moved to the new location and I am very well away of what is going on there, Your taking whatever load they give you, while their giving choice loads to those that kick back to the dispatchers, this is well known .So continue on and you should do ok living in your truck
If you run California and Oregon how do you use 60mph as an average when the truck speed is 55 for the whole of both states.
How much fun do you have trying to find a trailer when you have to drop yours?
How do you like it when the dispatcher tells you the load is 38k and you get there and its 45k
How do you like it when they tell you the load needs to be there before 5pm on Friday and you drive your butt off to get there and they tell you your not suppose to be there till Monday and you set all weekend, you cant call anyone they leave the office a 445 pm on Fridays and the weekend phone call person, says I don't know youll have to wait and take that up with your dispatcher,
Im sure none of these things happen to you because you are just something special
So my final words to you on this matter is this, Knowing gulick has a awful safety record, and you need to make sure they are paying you for your loads and not skimming from the top and you need to run hard and buying a Volvo for $130,000, at 1500-2000 bucks every 2 weeks and if you refuse a load your going to get punished, you would recommend this to anyone 0/0s or those that want to lease from them and become one. I rest my case
Oh in closing you wrote you use ddl logs and that they are always PREFECT, think you should start double checking your work its not PREFECT is it?Last edited: Nov 24, 2013
