As we all know at some point E-Logs will be in our trucks . Last I was listening too on the XM trucker channel they had 2 guys from the FMCA and the latest was late 2014 early. 2015. I know there are a lot of companies already on board the company I drive for the rumor has been the owner will close the doors before he ever goes to e log. For us it's gonna kill the drivers on mileage loss since it seams the only loads they haven't lost are all the Chicago runs . We haul for a major glass company in Midwest WI. 2 other companies have been cleaning house and leaving us with the obvious scraps they don't want and I know for sure 1 is on e log. Not sure of the other , so I guess is it just a inflated fear, if you noticed a change has it been by much, make your life harder or easier. We are still on loose leaf paper logs and there are times I wish a computer would tell me it's time to stop and rest instead of dispatch pulling the "oh come on we really need your help" you all know what happens when you say no too many times . Let's face it FMCA / DOT is not dumb when they know your on paper. So the ones that are on E - logs let's hear your thoughts
E-log users love it or hate it

I've been on them for nearly 2 years now, and I actually like them a lot. There are occasions where you run out of time a bit short of your destination, and that is indeed frustrating, but it is a fairly rare occurance.
When I get inspected, I don't have to worry that I forgot to write something, or added wrong. Sometimes they don't even bother to look at it. It also makes splitting breaks much easier, especially if you do it 2 or 3 days straight.
It definitely helps that I don't work for a company that feels they need to micromanage drivers. As long as I pick up and deliver on time, they don't care how long my breaks are, or how much I drive in a day. -
Elogs wouldn't be bad if the USA would switch to Canada's hos.
Hate running the us and I live here !!!gokiddogo Thanks this. -
Absolutely hate them.
I've spent too many Friday nights 40-50 miles from home doing 10 because the babysitter said I'm tired and it's time to stop.
Or not being able to run that last 18 minutes to the shipper/cons if I'm close and being able to park there with a full clock the next day. No let's get up and start our clock and then drive 18 minutes to sit for a 5 hour live load/unload.
The only thing that box is good for is figuring the split without having to do the math.
I'd rip it out and throw it out the window if I could.Last edited: Nov 25, 2013
cuzzin it, cowboy_tech, HalpinUout and 1 other person Thank this. -
i hate them, been on them for about 6 months now. You can do alright with miles. i can run over 4k on 70 hrs with it. But it's still crap

I don't have them, but I talk to others that do, and some companies are splitting it up, running those who have issues on E-logs, and those that know how to write a legal log on paper.
I know of others who have quit or are quitting either before or because of them. I run legal enough without them, and when I feel like sleeping a bit past, I don't worry about someone seeing that. It's hardest running regional and somewhat regular routes, with the same stops interspersed with new ones. Some days, you can start early enough to use the 8 hour split, and others you have to run the whole 14 in 1 shot, so sleeping when you can versus not sleeping when you have to becomes an issue.
I think the statistics are running against them right now, as more adopt, it seems there are also more fatalities as reported elsewhere, and I'm listening very hard for what isn't being said.PackRatTDI, 900,000-tons-of-steel and 72express Thank this. -
I like them and hate them. I like them because DOT and chicken coops don't ask to look at my logs, but I hate them when I'm in traffic or waiting on a shipper or reciever. However the benefits outweigh the negatives for me with my company and what we haul.

Started with paper for 6 months, then E-Logs for almost two years and now I'm back to paper. When I filled out that first paper log couple weeks ago I starting laughing. Technology is so much a part of everything in our lives these days that I can't believe paper is still acceptable. I do like paper however I think anyone that inspects them pretty much knows they aren't accurate...then again E-Logs aren't either once you learn the parameters.

I've been on e-logs for about 2.5 yrs now and for the most part, it makes my life a little easier. DOT won't even bother to look at em when you tell em you're on e-logs, split breaks are much easier, and I can still run 700 miles per day in a 68 mph truck, and like OP said, no more having dispatch push you beyond hos. My company is pretty laid back on going over by if few minutes if I need to get home or get to a shipper/consignee. Just this past Saturday I had to go over my 14 by 33 min to get home and no one said anything to me about it. I guess it would be bad if your company busted your balls about minor violations like that.
