I've read that freight slows down a bit for flats typically starting the beginning of November , some companies are hit more than others .

Im sure some van and reefer companies see 'some' difference as well but it appears flats are hit the hardest .

What IS the difference for you guys ? From a mileage ,%, or $$$ basis how bad is it from November to March ?

This is an interesting question that I would like to hear about as well. About to start with a flatbed company.

I cant help you with flatbed but with dryvans typicly january and most of february slow down. There seems to be a large push to get excess inventory shipped and off the docks before the end of december which takes its toll come january.

I agree. January is also when a lot of manufacturing and retail companies load up trailers and park them in some back lot so when they do inventory in January, the customary time dictated by accounting rules, the bean counters can keep all that inventory off the books (thank FASAB and GAAP for that) since goods in transit do not qualify for inventory. December, January and February are the biggest months for trailer leasing companies. As soon as inventory is done the goods go back into the warehouse and the trailers go back to the leasing companies.

might as well just take Jan and Feb off.....might find something worthwhile ate month end. March is sometimes better....end of Q1.

It's not really that much of a price drop it's the lack of freight it's really not uncommon to sit longer looking for your next load. It always drops off from thanksgiving until 2nd week in feb.

spring comes around we cant find no sd/fb in the area to ship out palm tree's. so we give them to brokers.
But no work from the 2 week of December to like 3rd week of January
But if you do keep your price high especially in snowy states.

:mooh:All freight slows down this time of year. However, the drivers that stay out will work because someone needs to haul what freight there is being shipped. One year at Xmas, I stayed out and my company ran my rumpus off because everyone wanted to be home.

Hi guys - is it feasible to pull a different type of trailer the months where the work is slow? Maybe a refer in the summer months or something along those lines? Or do you lose ground with the contacts you've been working with?
