I bought the Cobra LX BT on Amazon. I took it to DTB on 11/21/13 $22.99 tune up 19.99 12 foot of coax. (I asked him why 12 foot he said its good enough.) 4.99 coax adaptor $45.00 single antenna install $12.99 right angle antenna stud for Kenworth t-600 $26.99 Firestik 4' tunable CB antenna 7.98 sales tax 140.93 total price out the door. he ran the coax from the antenna to the CB Through the door crushing the wire. And he left the coax hanging out of the back of the radio on front of my windshield. it took 3 hours to install properly at the petro down the street. I was transmitting maybe a mile or two that was until the antenna fell off in West Virginia during an ice storm. now I'm running the factory antenna that came with the truck
I can't wait to take my radio to Reese and see what he's got to say. I feel raped -
A couple of questions, Why didn't you say something about the pinched coax, to DTB radio before you left? Also, what led you to think the DTB install might have been faulty? Just wondering.

I'm VERY sorry that you had problems with the system! I'm generally very picky about my work, and would never have let something like that go if I'd known the coax had been pinched. I'm assuming you're the one who called and left the message before the Thanksgiving holiday about the antenna coming off. I returned your call and left a message this morning. I was out of the shop Wednesday and Thursday, and got your message this morning. An ice storm is one of those things that normally won't take out an antenna system thats mounted well, but even a really well-mounted antenna can be knocked out if the ice conditions are bad enough. At any rate, if you stop by the shop with the receipt and what remained of the mount after the ice storm took out the antenna, I'll give you a replacement antenna to keep as a spare. If you bring the receipt showing the issue with the coax, I'll also give you a spare coax, and some service credit that you can use any time (no expiration date). Again, I'm VERY sorry you had a problem with the service you got from me!

Anyone been to the cb shop in Walcott? Is it any good? I got a cobra 148 gtl st that I need looked over as I got it from a buddy that said it's been peaked and tuned but I think it's messed up. If I turn the dynamike up at all I get terrible squealing. It's using a galaxy mic right now so maybe the mic is screwed up but I don't want to start buying mica and antennas and coax until I know the radio is good.
If Walcott is not good any recommendations in the Iowa area/Omaha Nebraska area maybe? I live in Toledo,ia so don't want to go too far.... -
I have several microphones, and have found it's usually a wire loose in the connections, but it could be a bad element.
I have heard both ways about Walcott, it depends on who you get as there are others that work there than the guy I dealt with. There's a shop off University Ave, in Waterloo, IA, or was, that was Red's I think. Ask around for others. If you got to the Madison, WI area, there is the Q-5 shop above the c-store at the Shell Truckstop/ Pinecone restaurant near Deforest at the US 51 exit off of 39/90/94, They are on the opposite side of the Interstate from the TA. It's been so long since I have dealt with them, but O'Rourke Brothers at North English used to be good. -
Anybody know anything about a Texas Star DX667V linear? Just bought a pickup that has that and a Cobra29 hooked up in it. Pulled it all out already but looks pretty new. Any info?
-
it's a 1X4 class AB1 and does 500 watts at 4 watts in and 650 with 20 in....so the website says....though it's probably harmonics more than signal...
