Exactly what I was thinking, the new rate con is meaningless if you don't sign it and send it back.......

You already have a rate con, don't need another one UNLESS they are adding to the agreed upon amount. Deducting from it? Yeah, don't think I'll be signing the new rate sheet and emailing it back....

Bill em the amount on the first sheet and be done with it.

    dgc Thanks this.

Its also a matter of respect the consignee is not the truckers customer nor is the shipper .
He should have went through the chr rep to change it .Communication is key ..
Fining/ deductions for drivers and carriers seems to be on the rise.
Chr goes as far as stating if you don't call in 2 hours before on some loads that you will be charged 200. lol
Some of these computer systems for the big dc's once an appt is not made is automatically rescheduled and the new appt#/confirmation# just needs to be emailed.
A new system needs to be made that allows for easier direct shpmnts eliminating the middleman .

Thank God my company bills for storage. "Do you want our driver to sit on the load for 48 hrs? Let me quote you our rate for that."

And my favorite line to use is, "#### right we're early! Did you want a company that delivers late? I can recommend a few,,,"

Yup. Seems like its ###### if you do, ###### if you don't. You get charged for being early or late other wise they use you and your truck for free storage and babysitting. Either way, they are raking the profit back for themselves or saving money from storage fees at the drivers expense.[/QUOTE]

With CHR....the driver is NEVER to call the shipper or consignee for other then directions. Sounds to me if I knew I was going to need an earlier appointment time, I would have had my company call CHR and say hey, our driver need an earlier appt. time. CHR sets ALL appt. times.

I keep hearing Just In Time. Isn't that when you load the product and hook up to get there just when they need the product. Now why would someone be foolish enough to warehouse a product on your trailer for free. As for the risk management side of the deal you should be charging extra for both services. If you have to hurry to get there your expenses go up and if you are sitting around a couple days waiting your expenses go up! An extra $600 a day for ether service should be reasonable. Just something to let your brokers know.

Might be $600 or might be $0 depending on circumstances. Might be a $1,000 or more. Walk away from any deal, good or bad, and you'll really find out what someone is willing to pay. I've had brokers meet some ridiculous rate that I threw at them to make them go away then still not accept and finally cave in and accept when they'd sweeten with several hundred more than that. "go away I don't want your load" price. You don't make friends like that but hey it's business if they're willing to pay then it's a fair price.

I wish more people would treat their negotiations like you. I find it really hard to ask for a good rate when a broker tells me theyre getting 1/2 off from Joe Blow Trucking .
Im like you, sometimes you gotta walk away, theyll call you 1 or 2 hrs later and agree to your rate but youre already booked. :0)

Yeah that's funny... sorry. Being able to walk away from any or every load out here is your most important and powerful negotiating tool. And you #### well might sit and not do anything at all because the market will not support your demands. That is why in my model getting home often is the key. It's a lot more fun sitting at home than it is a truck stop or worse actually working for free. And learning, knowing exactly what you need to go to any market in order to easier get back. If you don't know treat it like Florida or Oklahoma - better a fat rate safe than sorry - if you get it great, if not no worries kick back at the house. This gives a person great satisfaction when making a deal. Periods of nothing and boredom punctuated with a grand slam always gives one a rush. And never forget going broke burning up and down the highways and working hard to do it is no where near as fun as sitting at home going broke lol.
