First off I 29 years old from charlotte nc. I am currently a HVAC tech. I have always thought driving would be a very exciting career. The main reason im looking to drive OTR is medical benefits. I have a son with kidney/liver disease. Im making my decision based on company that offers the best benefits. I know that driving OTR is gonna SUCK for me/family,but I will do anything to help my son/family. We currently pay for private insurance which is around 1k a month out of pocket. My end goal is to get my exp then start o/o with my w900.

Have you checked into Obamacare, you should be able to get better rates than private insurance and your current employer will probably have to offer you some sort of Health insurance now.

Before you do anything check the NC exchange to see what kind of insurance you can get and if you qualify for a subsidy. If you are wanting to become a trucker just for the benefits you might be a little disappointed. Most starter company plans don't even kick in for at least six months and most are not good plans. On top of that if and when you become an o/o you will have to go right back into the private market.

I have tried disability Medicare all that. If I had a better option I would do it. We have the best insurence we can afford right now. Like I said its about 1000 a month. If I get the same plan thru work is about 1200. I'm just simply looking for input on y'all's experience with benefits. I've talked to maverick. There medical is really good. Only requires 60 days employment.
