I just started reading on this thread today, so I didn't join in on the CRE curses. He started back out with CRE in May of 2011 and quit them Dec of 2012. He is now at Prime. USX was pretty good most of the time till the economy really tanked.

He leased from CRE, don't think they forced it, but I believe it was the only way to get a truck faster, so they did their trick on him. After about a month or two out, he went to Phase II trainer. He was in between students and CRE had him pick up a guy in AL that had to go home to pick up his license, and they decided to team drive. Well they would get a few good runs, then it would go back down again. They didn't like it that he wasn't training, not that you can prove it. When his co-driver decided to quit, hubby went to Phase 1 trainer. He was making just enough money to keep the bill collectors away, but still juggling a lot of weeks. Then the truck started having problems, an International 2012, new when he got it in Jan 2012. It would take sometimes a week off for it to be fixed. So between motel bills, and having to pay the student pay, we were loosing money. This is where CRE puts money into an account for maintenance, but you can't access it for motel breakdown pay. They let him write comchecks a couple of times to pay the motel bill, but it ended up coming out of his next weeks settlement. So he dumped them in Dec. and got on with Prime in Jan.

He had anInternational as well with CRE. That thing had more problems than my 20 yo Honda. I'm liking USX way better though. The only issue we've really had is the QualCom goes down and the trucker GPS he bought back in April can't find #### either so I end up using my phone. We're headed to a terminal in Laredo, this will be my first time at one so I don't know how good or bad they are yet. His FM is outta TN and she's to be pretty awesome so far. In fact he just got a message asking when he wanted to head home for Christmas. I know no company is perfect, but at least USX seems to at least care about their drivers.

OK ... I'm not even a "newbie" ... I'm in the process of looking into Trucker school and the job. In the process I called a friend who is driving for some advice, since I received a call from a CRE rep. who was hoping to recruit me, take a school in Indiana for 17 days and, since I can't pay for the schooling, commit to drive for them for 9 months to pay off the schooling. Without hesitation, my friend warned me off of CRE. His observations about the company were that typically: 1) CRE has poor equipment, 2) you are told half-truths all the time in order to recruit you, 3) you will work all day, 4) and typically drive with a 400 lb "trainer" who never showers for 2 months. This is not a pretty picture!:biggrin_25512:

But having warned me off of CRE, he did warn me that the first year would be the most rigorous and difficult anyway ... and just to plan on that. He also pointed me to this site to check out the "good" and the "bad" companies and do some research on the whole deal. I appreciate learning more about the reality of truck driving, since the recruiter will only say what he thinks I want to hear. I live in NW Georgia. Does anyone have advice you want to add to what I've heard so far?

Our International had a lot of problems too. US Xpress is getting rid of them due to this.

Have the shop look at his DriverTech while your at the terminal. They can put a new one in.

Possibly in the future. When we came home this time my daughter had twin girls who were 2 mo preemie at the time, so I was helping her with them and her other 2 boys. They were living at our house at the time, so it was a big needed help for her. She has her medical issues too that makes it hard sometimes for her.

We have 3 acres of property, so during the summer months while the grass is growing is a hard time to get out, but in the winter would be great. He has a lightbody truck at Prime right now and it has no room in it for two, hardly one fits. He's thinking about leasing again, but not too sure if it is a good idea, really got burned out at CRE and I am really leary of him going that way. We're seeing what the next 2 mo do before deciding for sure.

Are you using your phone to post on here or do you have a laptop. If you had an aircard for internet you can google places too. Sometimes you have to kinda figure out from what exit they have you going off on and then the rest of the directions if you can figure out what streets, esp when they give route numbers like in WI. I have used an address in the area to get hubby's Rand to the approximate area in the past, a cross street sometimes works or a business in the area. There are also addresses in some areas that end up being on the opposite side of town, London, Ky is one area like that. A lot of times you might go to the same places, it might not be once every 3 mo, so if you keep track in a notebook of anything you did to find the place, or the directions, etc, you can flip back to it and see what you wrote. Also note if they had overnight parking, or not, etc.

You would have loved seeing WI in the fall, I forgot how beautiful it was there, but God had a real good time painting the palette of colors I think.

I guess you found out how much a hole in the wall Laredo is also. If you go to the Pilot in the area, don't leave any laundry unattended, hubby had a load swiped when he was there one time. :biggrin_25523: He had been sick and I believe hit the shower while it was drying. Hope they got some good use out of what they swiped.

I'm using my phone. I have my laptop with me but it's big so this is just easier. Laredo wasn't too bad other than being 90 freakin degrees. We drove into ice in OK this morning but it didn't last long thankfully. Hopefully we'll avoid all of it. We're in Kansas now headed to Riverdale, MO. If he decides to lease again let me know how it goes. Chris said something about maybe doing it again later and I immediately had a please never again look on my face.

Didn't he learn anything from the CR England ordeal? Tell him to use his head and just be a company driver. Most lease deals fail for the driver.
