You have to play their games. You should have told him "You'll be the first guy I call when there's any problems." Sometimes respect isn't given, its earned.

The deal is the no respect all around. Drivers, dispatchers, mechanics all generalize and give off way too much attitude. I have been a mechanic all my life, equipment mostly but a few trucks always come with it. A few drivers and operators want to turn a small bad day issue into a peeing contest. How many complaints do you think they hear a day? Now that is the business they are in so get used to it or quit. Drivers win 95% of these peeing contest and it fumes the shop guys. Its silly really cause the drivers need the shop guys and the shop guys need the drivers and both need the dispatchers. With one cog missing the whole machine is useless. Course very few trucking companies have mechanics, they have service men. These guys jobs can be done by almost any bodies same as a driver its just what side of the coin do you prefer. A mechanic however properly diagnosis the problem, performs necessary action in a timely manner with little to no comeback work. We are butt holes to most cause everybody seems to want to be our "bud" which means favors. What they done with the lunch room deal well I dont have words to describe that. I believe in giving respect regardless of first impressions till the person shows they don't have any themselves. I still have a few customers that request me to build their engine or trans, they either wait till I want to or trust one of my guys. Last thing I want is for a customer to make one of the 2 guys I hand picked to work for me he isn't good enough to me that is disrespectful to my employee. If one of them quits I can't drive and I love it so I take care of them. I wish I could quit this trucking habit but I have always wanted to see my name on the door. I just thought maybe I could give a little insight to the shop side of things. I just can't imagine why they would do that to you with out knowing you.
