Yeah, thanks. I started this post about paper logs and have seen little responce on that. Don't know if that is because they are increasingly rare or because it is increasingly untenable to fake them. It is fun to argue but this is for me, sincerely a fact-finding mission.
Thanks for your replies

How hard do you really want to work??? I was just like you when I started. Run and run and run, 4000, 5000 mile weeks, EVERY week. How much more did I make at the end of the year? Not a whole heck of a lot. Not enough to justify being a zombie behind the wheel. You might be glad you are "out of hours" when you are expected to continue running your buns off while your eyes are telling you they are not staying open any longer. And here is a little tip, if you write your book that you drive exactly 11 hours every day, take your 30 min, then take exactly 10 hours off, and every day you average say 65-70 mph, you think DOT is going to believe your story?? Good luck with that one. I had those inspections and luckily they always ended up with no tickets, but I sure was scrutinized extra for it. You are going to loose time at pickup and delivery appointments anyway. Figure out how many hours driving it will take you, then figure out how many "shots" it will take you, then figure out how much off duty time is required. I bet you always have a few extra hours to make your delivery time. If not, then the run was scheduled in a need for you to break the rules and the company can have their feet to the fire for that. There is no need to get so excited about turning maximum miles in shortest time. Just relax a little bit and you will have a lower chance of needing blood pressure medication early in life.

I think its a how we feel today thing on the off duty. They can tell us we have to take a ten hr with 8 in sleeper birth. Company can shut truck off to insure it happens. But so far theres no way to insure we sleep and no set up b.s. ing or gaming or like me as a poor O/O working on truck half the night to something on your last nerve that wont let you.

Not trying to be harsh but, telling someone with limited experience what I know about falsifying logs. Is like giving a monkey a loaded gun. If you don't have the know how you don't know you're limit.
A21CAV and joseph1135 Thank this. -
I run paper logs... company issued Loose Leaf to be exact.
I don't run 2 books, But i do sanitize them if needed.. Some days i don't. Some days i do.
If your company has their crap together, and you keep the left door shut and truck in high gear, you can run all the miles you need to run a week to make good money -
yes the 2hrs counts against your 14so if you already had a .75 and a .5 your and you take 2 off it would cut into the 11 by .25 but a .25 and a .5 and 2 would still have 11 to drive

Nice Speach. You got my vote. Go run for Office and fix some of these silly rules. GL , Stay Safe and Happy Holidays.

Remember these words: You gotta learn how to work. Keep that door shut and run. Even now, in a 62 mph truck I can cover 670 miles a day. A far cry from the 1000 mile days of before. But there's no reason someone has to kill themselves to make money. You don't have to log illegal to make money. Buddy of mine is leased to Fed Ex CC. Making $3500-$5000 a week. On e-logs. When you're out here long enough and know what you're doing and why it needs to be done, you'll see that doing it legal makes the most possible sense. Sure. It would be nice to stretch things. But with everything a driver is up against, the best bet is "safe and legal". In two seconds the DOT or some money hungry lawyer can take everything. No thanks. I work to hard to give it up.
A21CAV Thanks this. -
Ive "squeezed" my log sheet hours before. It helps when the boss is in on it. EXAMPLE: got back legally to base at 6pm. Got home rewrote log with same drive time but less time unloading at shippers that day. (Were talking local drivers/regional) Maybe you had a tough time making deliveries) So it gets modified to show you finished at 4pm. The reason you done this in the first place is so you can doa route the next day that starts at 2am. Boss is in on this and lets you pad your next day with the 2 hrs you shaved to the end of your shift. 2 hours warehouse work when you got back. Ive done this rarely and it sucks because you dont get your 10 off but the early start the next day might mean an early end to your friday and start your weekend off(34 hour restart). This is the only squeezing ive done. STRONGLY advise against going over 14 though. Heard a story about an ole boy in Oklahoma (modified logsheet) got hit head on by a Drunk Driver) drunk woman died. WELL they checked his logs, had him pee in a cup.Everything seemed fine till later. Lawyer started digging around interviewing shippers, checking sign in records etc. Discovered he was on duty almost 17 hours. Said yes lady was drunk but "He shouldnt have been there and it wouldnt have happened. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison for "involuntary manslaughter" So do you think its worth the risk? I dont. Recommend dont chance it.JasonL, NavigatorWife, bergy and 1 other person Thank this.
