problems mapping

Get a GPS that is designed for truckers. I use the COBRA 6000 PRO-HD . I tell is the size and weight of my truck and tells me routes I can use. Never had a problem yet. $250 from PETRO/TA .

 

Rand McNally Motor Carriers Atlas...most any truckstop. Get the laminated version...it has all the info you need

 

Your route to Ft Wayne looks fine to me. There's a variation to the exact route. All depends how many tolls you want to pay. No great short way between those places. I assume your starting point is Baltimore. Good luck

 

Actually, the short route is 70 to 270 to 33. You weren't off by to much though.

 

Rand McNally atlas gets printed a year and a half before you buy it @ a truck stop. 2014 delivered in may-june @ pilot....outdated but good to have.

You will never have the full grasp of a road or route until you drive it.

Maps truck-GPS are tools to the puzzle they hired you to figure it out.

Yes the laminated version is best as the other kind falls apart after awhile. That Cobra Pro-HD you can buy also at Amazon for a bit cheaper, at $205. I'm sure it's a great unit. I'm leaning that way too. My google maps via my iPad just won't cut it. As if it ever did. LOL

 

Front of the rand atlas has restrictions on interstates us highways and state routes, check then with your gps route and if any restricted routes pop up drop waypoints to avoid it, also call the shipper/reciver ahead of time and tell them you're coming in a big truck and need directions. Read signs closely, and know where you're shipper is, and if you have to go down a route labels no trucks except local deliveries make sure your paper work is handy

 

Something good if you buy the laminated map as opposed to the regular is that you can use a dry erase marker and there ya go.
