Looking to leave my current mega carrier and find a better gig, maybe soon, maybe in a couple months. How is Roehl in comparison to a company such as schneider? How is the pay and miles, esp for a rookie? How is home time?
Considering Roehl

Lots of this info has been talked about many times here. I researched both companies before I made my choice. To me anyway they're pretty similar. The same issues that you have at Schneider are probably here at Roehl.
-
Also depends on exactly what you're looking for. Home time would probably not be an issue for you considering where you live. With a terminal in Appleton/Neenah.

Scott: Poor CPM and mediocre miles? No inverter policy, no idle, no APU's? Strict and frustrating routing? Home 36-72 hours late almost every trip home?

Cupcake, here is what I have experienced so far. I started with Roehl through their school program in September, I finished my time with the trainer in mid October and have been running ever since. I go home about once every 2-3 weeks and I put out 12000 miles during the month of November. I did not make it home for thanksgiving, but that was partially my choice. The only time they seem to have a hard time getting me home is when I am going to home time, but that is probably because I live in maine.
Don't know if this helps at all...WI Cupcake Thanks this. -
I was at Roehl twice, left both times because of miles, anytime I had a good couple weeks they would sit me for 4 or 5 days. The first time there I was getting home on time, second time around I was always 24 to 72 hours late, missed all doctor and dentist appointments while I was there the second time. They did have a good apu/idle policy. Routing was pretty strict as was fueling, never really had a problem with routing. The new pay program is a joke as they hold all the cards on miles, but then of course its your fault if you don't get enough miles and they cut your pay. I was never late, no accidents, no cargo claims and didn't whine to my Dispatcher while there, except for lack of miles. I pulled a flat and live in upstate NY. They are a good starter company, but between the two I would stick with Schnieder. I am still pulling flats with a different company and am very happy here. From talking to quite a few drivers with Roehl while there, new drivers (lower payscale) get tons of miles and the more CPM the less miles.

I have been with both Roehl and Schneider as a company driver. You will find that both companies have pretty much the same policies and run the same. No APU now as they have switched the new trucks to the battery operated systems. Idle and route policy much the same. There is some orange in the red. A former fleet manager that I had here at Roehl use to dispatch for Schneider. Don't think you are going to see much change in your paycheck if you change companies. Grass is not always greener...it's just been spray painted to look that way.
WI Cupcake and Projektf350 Thank this. -
Fair enough. Thanks guys. Grass being greener needs be be fertilized once in a while, if you catch my drift lol.

Yes a lot of those same things here. Can't comment on pay and miles, but there is an inverter policy, nearly no APU's, idling is stricly watched, at times frustrating routing, and home times vary. I wasn't trying to be rude, but I think you find a lot of the same complaints with all the mega's..

Only thing with me personally. I've never had an issue with home time.
