Hi All, I have recently started into a delivery type job . Steady going in and out of reefer trailer then into various places of business. The temps outside are getting down well below freezing. I am the type of person that sweats alot and as a result end up being wet and cold if I stop for a minute or two. I am not over weight and in resonable shape so that`s not the issue here. What I would like to know from anyone who has experienced this type of scenario what tpye of clothing (baselayer) do you wear. Are there any types of T shirts, long underwear and hats that keep you dry and warm ? Thanks

Under armor and Stacy Adams boxers.

You need to start wearing clothing that can wick moisture away, and I'd make a guess that you're probably not layering (and if you are, it's not with the right material.)

You need some form of moisture wicking base layer, like these. This will remove moisture.
Put a light cotton layer ontop of that (t-shirt/thermals.) This will neither really retain nor remove moisture
A heavier cotton layer ontop of that (flannel.) This will retain a small amount of moisture
A heavy polyester/cotton blend ontop of that. This will retain moisture.
Finish with (insulated) wool or denim if you can. This will retain a lot of moisture.

Make sure each layer is relatively easy to strip with some speed, and remove as necessary to maintain a comfortable body temp.
It would also be wise, to make sure the final three layers have some form of controllable opening (zippers/buttons) so you can open and close them to vent moisture/excessive heat.

And yeah- you may have fifteen pounds of clothes on, but this will keep you warm/cool as needed. But most importantly, it will keep you dry.

So when you sweat do you get real hot or just sweat?I knew 2 ppl that sweated a lot.The lady always wore shorts even in below zero weather and no coat.Dont think she and the guy owned a winter coat.He wore jeans and always a teeshirt. He made me freeze just watching him walk clear across the lot with no coat during blizzard conditions.

    Wear a beanie or headband

Trick your brain from the outside conditions.

Worked for me when I worked for like 3 weeks @ Walmart in the freezer throwing & tagging boxes.

    Wear what tiger woods wears.

You aint seeing him sweat that often.

Under-Armor is a brand name. I`ve heard about it but never tried it . Have some on order. Athletic people wear it.

It's not a problem at all, I see you live up across the lake from me- so we're experiencing a lot of the same weather. It's been a nasty year already, it's fixin` to get worse.

I work outside, all day, playing with flatbeds, 48' open top dumpers and residential garbage trucks; so it can be pretty safely assumed I'm doing almost as much physical labor as I am driving.
The under armor and thermals alone are life savers, the wool/denim layer will break most of the wind, the polyester layer will completely stop it before it can hit your thermals and base layer robbing you of all heat, meanwhile if you leave about a foot of your layers unzipped in the front it will allow most of the moisture and excess heat to escape.

    muff Thanks this.
