BJ's in Uxbridge MA is the only place I've been required to do any unloading. They did a straight pull, and expected the driver to break it down. When U2 was posting, he said there was a place in Minooka IL, I believe, that required driver assist.

It can happen, but it is extremely rare.

Thanks Jimmy B and IronPony,,, I prefer to "play to win" versue "play not to lose". Sure I have bum knees...really need surgery someday...as without wearing braces..they will blow out and swell up....and with torn meniscus in both...someday will inevitably have to get it done...but If I get the surgery now...I am looking at 6 weeks of recovery per knee....that would pretty much disqualify my approval as I just got my application approved today and I'm stoked!! As I have insurance and could do the surgery in Jan...but then have to wait 2 months to drive...instead I think its best I go for it...wear the steel braces I just got....tough it out....after I put my first year in..and pay my dues....then I always could have it done if I had to...then would have my school paid for...and have gotten past the critical 1 year mark on my resume.....thanks for telling me what I hoped to here..and am sure we'll be in touch after I get onboard in January!!

1 last question regarding this topic:

So,in case my knees get worse..and I elect to get the surgery after my 1 year mark...can I take a medical leave from Prime..and after 2 months...get back to driving?

Yeah, I'm not sure about all the medical stuff.

there is the "duck walk" during your physical. You might want to ask if they allow your knee braces to do it.

As to "duck walk? " that is where you are required to squat and duck walk a few steps and then stand back up. Why? It simulates crawling under and between trailers.

do you do it in the real world of trucking? Yes there are plenty of places I've been where the trailers are parked so close you can't squeeze between them to raise the landing gear, and there isn't always a "yard dog" to lift and pull out the trailer for you. Your truck isn't capable of lifting the trailer and thus the landing prevents you from pulling it out.

Although I have never been in the terminal at Pittston, Pa I recently drove buy considering my other option's. I relocated 2500 miles for my current job and though they are extremely nice they went on a hiring spree wich lowered my mile's.. Paycheck is a little light as of late :/ but looking at the pics of the main terminal in MO it is just a baby version here in Pittston, PA nice tv lounge full gym etc....... they have big full frontal viewing windows for the passer by's to see what is going on and the drivers looked happy. Hope it helps~ Like anything else there are wright and wrong companys you need to find wich work's for you :D

How many miles per week, can a rookie expect to drive?

Depends on how a given FM decides to break a rookie in. Most of them don't want to give you too much to handle at first. Say 2000-2200 miles per week until you show you can handle that. My average on the company side was over 2800 per week.

Even 2800 is a good paycheck really. I told my FM when I met him that I wanted to average a minimum of 2500 a week, that would be enough to live on and support my family.

I sold life and health insurance for a while and the insurance companies see weight as weight, yes muscle is healthier, but it still has to be fed blood and oxygen and that puts strain on the heart.
