( sorry for the dumb question ) but I live in Texas and really would like to drive for tmc, will I be able to drive for them if their headquarters is in Des Moines? I'm thinking that if there is a load out my way that's when my home time will be, am I correct? Or way off, thanks!

I dunno know the answer, but left click "forum" above left- left click "Motor carriers the inside scoop" -find "TMC" in list and click on that --i assume you should find an answer there. FYI: Google "TMC"'s site also if you haven't already.

    Joel Barzinpour Thanks this.

When you get into your own truck you won't see a terminal until its time for service. They will get you home every week if you can get the job done

    Joel Barzinpour Thanks this.

Does TMC require an actual CDL school? I'm getting my CDL on my own and will get experience on FB's while driving for a friends company up in MI. Didn't know is there was any discretion there.

Also, I'll be retired from the Marine Corps. I see a lot of bashing on the militaristic mentality. Granted, it's been a LONG time since I've done any work outside of the military...Is it really that bad for some people??? Or is it just a lot of lazy complainers???

It seems to be the norm on this forum that the trucking company's in general want to see a diploma from a trucking school --i dont see why actual trucking verifiable experience and a CDL A license wouldn't be good enough but i really don't know.
You mean folks on here are bashing or making fun of the militaristic mentality they think or is at TMC. I don't know first hand but what i see from whats posted and from a non military point of view. It is mentioned that the owner or company like ex military --that may be true and they may be preferred. Or maybe its a rumor that came true because ex military drivers looked at and applied at TMC for that reason. There does seem to be a lot of rumors or quirks about the company -"dont step on the grass", and make sure your truck is spotless inside and out seem to be a couple --i dunno.
Truth is, its trucking and they may care about those things but i am betting they care more about "Green"and how much you can make them.
A lot of companies seem to have that "hiring our hero's" or "GI bill" program where you get paid extra for a year on top of your regular pay if you are ex military. Seems like a "No Brainer" for an ex military person if they want to try trucking for a year.

I had a friend get a job with them, no cdl, trained at their HQ or they sent him somewhere when he was there, had a trainer for awhile, then on his own
they will give you basic rules like do not walk on the grass, if you do your done.... reason is if you cannot follow something so small how are you going to be trusted with a $100k++ truck 2000 miles away

I think they also like to train you themselves, not 100% on that though

I think they send you to a near by school recommended by them?
Yeh that sounds good , but that schooling cost,s you in either time served (1yr) or you pay back the school cost if you don't do the time -correct?
On that note, it is my firm belief that if you go through any of these companies "own schools" its free with a catch, and i really cant see anyone not getting hired when done --barring those exceptions that really would have a hard time getting employment any where or just plain cant drive --or the obvious accident while training or schooling.

Hey Gypsy65 ask your friend at TMC -if everyone that gets sent home early or didn't make the cut heads straight across that lawn on the way out.
Its childish but so much has been posted about it (the grass) i would think that there would be a path worn through the grass from the rejects --yep i would put on cleats and do a dance straight across the grass yes i am 52 but act like a 3 year old.
