Is Small 2 car hauler flatbed feasible to make extra cash

    I recently purchased a 36ft tri axle 15k trailer. I have picked up insurance and have started hauling a few cars/farm equipment on weekends (after my full time m-thur job). Seems like the market is not very good right now and guys are hauling for next to nothing (like 30 cpm). I understand that a man is not gonna become a millionaire hauling cars but i I've made decent money on my first few hauls. Am i just getting lucky or is there actually some decent money to be made. I can operate loaded to the max at around .50 cpm not including maintenance (oil changes tires ect). I usually target the 500-800 mile range with a couple items there and a couple back hauls.. Im currently just carrying my insurance and have not yet done all the DOT/MC jargen yet, being I'm operating on a very small scale right now. I know I'm going to have to eventually do this and be legit. is there any HURDLES i should expect

    It doesn't matter what scale you operate at, if you're FOR HIRE, you need full DOT authority.

    Come on now, you know DOT will completely understand if one is just testing the waters & grant them a grace period. That jail stuff & fines that total more than most start ups truck/trailer set up combined are just for other people.

    Yep they will all the OP has to say when he rolls across that scale is this is my stuff on the trailer and its personal use and he gets the green light. A lot of people have done that and they get away with it.

    He can keep doing his long haul 500-800 mile crap. My market was towing cars or delievering cars that didn't run. Average run took an hour stop to finish and paid $250+ just running across town. You do 3 cars a day burned 1/4 tank of fuel and walked away with $600 in your pocket after expenses. Then again I have the market for pulling old muscle cars out of barns and taking them 30 miles max. That's here the money is. Its not in dragging cars clear across the country. Never had to fill out a log book, and never bothered upping the tonnage on my pickup. Get removable DOT numbers and you're good to go. My truck was commercial when hauling and personal use when I wanted it to be. Parts etc were all a tax write off yep worked out pretty well if you have the market for it. I can still go back to it any time. I'll take running around doing that over dealing with DOT going coast to coast any day of the week.

    I am not commercial, I only do this on the weekends.........

    Not going to go in them and will not log the other job, so no problem......

    Lol. Ive got a racing team sticker and a demolision derby sticker on my back window and if i ever get stop those cars im hauling are for derbys or making race cars out of them and all the farm equipment is mine. Im headed out this weekend with a tractor and a trencher 900 miles south and grossing 1625.00 on the way down and have got one car so far to back haul for 600 net. So just with what ive got right now should clear 1300-1400 in 2 1/2 days.

    Racing for profit also puts you as commercial. Many of the weekend racers have been caught and now have numbers and insurance, medical cards, and all of the rest.

    Why come on here and ask, and then ignore advice?

    You have any idea what the penalties are when caught?

    Why should I pay to be legal if all these "testing the waters" and "only do it part time" don't need to? Then we wonder why the rates are crap.......
