I had never heard of it before either. He got the word, not sure if it came from his DBL or who, but thats what they told him. Last year, he had a portable propane grill that he used a few times in the parking lot, on a portable table. They told him he couldnt have that either....he wasnt even supposed to even transport it in his truck. It was one of the ones that use the little bottles of propane. He was told to just get rid of it and he said hed do just that when they came up with some cash to pay for it. Be that as it may, a properly wired power inverter that will allow the use of a microwave, should not cause a fire. The many are having to pay for the stupidity of the few.

That would be about the stupidest thing they could do. Schneider has a mixed rep as it is. The only way this flies is if they start specing OTR trucks with built in fridges. If true they might need to increase the sign on bonuses to 10 grand to get drivers to sign up

The "they" in the case of the propane stove was his DBL. We were in Green Bay, and had just cooked hamburgers when he got a phone call from the guy who hauled him on the carpet about it. Im pretty sure that the issue was that at that OC they have a vendor who was miffed that we were not buying the food he was selling (we were broke and wouldnt have bought it anyway) and he called and complained about it. Somehow the DBL decided that the little propane bottles were dangerous. Needless to say, the grill stayed on the truck (with propane bottles attatched) until we got back home.

The theory is that the wiring of the freightliners isnt up to spec to run refrigerators and the like. Supposedly its not up to spec to run even the most rudimentary cooking gadgets....I heard one guy talking (and Im not mechanically or electrically savvy, so forgive the inaccuracy of this rememberance) about the wiring from the plug in the bunk area heating up and serging through the wiring that goes to the box by the drivers side seat causing an electrical fire. But if this is the case, the CPAP machines they are pushing so heavily would do the same thing, wouldnt it? So whats the difference if you use a 12v appliance for an hour versus using a federally mandated machine over night. I dont get it. I think hes just going to go ahead and use what hes got. A guy has to eat.

I literally have never heard any other Schneider driver have a problem with this. I also have never heard another driver say anything about the company not liking them. There is a trainer in bulk that is well known for his cooking ability on the road and he has all manner of appliances. His truck is easily recognizable, it has horse and cowboy decorations on the side of it. If a dbl said that to you then you need to challenge that.

thats it right there, the propane stove. That IS against policy. I think it says this as well as other banned items in the highway to success book.

The propane incident was two years ago, so doesnt pertain to this. He is going to challenge whoever told him no lunch box cooker. In the meantime, hes going to use them anyway.

Well for whatever its worth I haven't seen or heard anything like that. Usually they would send a fleet message or a pdf on crossroads. There is something about a "sure start" pdf but said nothing about these being against policy now. Just to make sure everything was turned off or unplugged.

May have been after a conference call the other day with (?), when he was speaking alone with that person or people. He didnt tell me who the conference call was with. My philosophy is that if it aint in writing, it didnt happen.
