Ok, not really forced INTO local work. But forced out of my OTR job. My company shut down due to increasing insurance costs, which had me out looking for jobs. I'm ultimately wanting to purchase a truck and operate under my own authority, but my financial situation won't allow that to happen - since I want to do this without borrowing any cash.
I applied and road tested for a night shift oilfield water truck position. While waiting for an answer on that one, I walked into another carrier's office here in town. I got asked if I minded fingerprinting freight and driving NYC. When I told them 'no problem', I got a whirlwind fast-track offer of employment driving a daycab and 53' dry van doing local store deliveries. 5 days / week, home every night, minimum $1K / week into January, then opportunity to stay local, or move to regional or OTR dry van. Got road tested, DOT physical and drug screen right after the application and interview.
Waiting for drug screen to come back, will start when it does.
Not going to name the company yet, but all the drivers that I saw yesterday looked pretty content.
Forced into local work...

Hate to see you lost the gig you had it seemed like things were working out there pretty good for you. The economic realities of increasing costs of operation can't be escaped I guess
Hope things work out with the new gig. You're much more a glutton for punishment than I am going into the city. I just won't do it lol
you'll be fine no matter where you end up you've always had a can do mindset. Good luckwindsmith and TruckingWolf Thank this. -
