I have been thinking about getting one of these myself. My question is how do you tie into the fuel lines. Do you tee into a line or do you have to drill a hole in the tank for a suction line?
Webasto or Espar?

Pacific Power Products here in Spokane sells Webasto 2000ST for around $860. No tax in WA if you have MC#. My friend bought one a month ago. I spent a night in Hermiston OR last week there was 0*F outside and my Webasto did its job well.

really I'd install small (1 gal) auxilarry tank for bunk heater, becouse when injectors go bad they let exaust gas come in fuel with some soot and if engine lets oil go to fuel it may kill evaporator with carbon deposits.
Other good idea - add some jet fuel in this tank -
They are both very similar mechanically. Webasto sells a stand pipe that tees into your fuel tank vent, so there is no drilling necessary. Not sure if espar does. Real important when installing, make sure your fuel lines are cut straight and the fuel lines touch each other when they are connected to the rubber hoses. Both units like to carbon up, so it is important to run the heaters at least 30 mins a month, including summer months. Also after use, let the heater power down by themself. If you have a battery load switch dont cut it off until the unit is powered down.

The Espar in my truck is also teed into a vent line in the tank.works really well! kept my truck 74° inside a big sleeper ProStar. when I woke up it was 9° in Salt Lake City. They really are worth the money.

If its that cold, im idleing. I don't want to start my tuck in 9 degrees and damage the poor engine.

My crapforce engine doesn't like to idle in cold weather. If I do, then it wants a parked regen 5 mins after I take off. So I try To keep idling to a minimum. It started surprisingly easy in that temperature.

Why not put a Webasto water heater and a circulation pump?
Then you have both the cab heated and the engine.F1EXPRESS Thanks this. -
I have Thermo 90 in Volvo. And I'm dissapointed. Of course less fuelt then with Idling, but coolant heater drains batteries so hard!
Really better to get bunk heater (better is 3kW) + APU ore coolant heater
The only time I use coolant heater is to warm up engine before start -
I had an Espar in my last truck, and when I ordered the one I have now, I had Freightliner install a Webasto at the factory. Both operate the same, and I can really tell no difference between them. The factory install is premier though. They also installed a stout metal box/cage around the Webasto unit to protect it, and mounted it under the bunk center section instead of one of the side box sections. As a side note, either one of these bunk heaters will heat up a can of soup very quick! When I stop, I can set a can of soup or some other heat up item near the front outlet for the blower and it will have a hot meal pretty quickly.
Even if one cannot justify an APU, like me, it is very easy to justify one of the bunk heaters. My next goal is to get one of the coolant heater models. Probably after I do the Maxwell start module and replace batteries with marine deep cycle AGM's.
