Well, I really haven't fallen off the face of the planet!! I don't know what else to post. Same story, different day. I drive to shipper, I wait to load. I load, then drive to receiver and off load.
No really. Everything is going good here. The miles are up and down, up if I stay out. I've been north of the border many times. I enjoy Canada loads. Easy miles. My truck is performing perfectly! On a different note, I made the top 10 list for my f/m for the glass division!! Pretty cool!! I intend to be higher on that list the next time it comes out!! On a different, personal level, while I was out on the road, my wife fell down the back steps at the house, and laid on the ground, unconscious, for hours before our Black Lab woke her, by licking. The dog "helped" her get into the house. She had to crawl around to the front of the house, on her hands and knees, with one hand on the dogs collar. She made it inside and called 911. Needless to say, she had a major concussion. She's doing better now. The point of the story is... Maverick would have GLADLY let me rush home, to take care of her. But if I did that, then there would be zero income. Ya gotta love Black Labs!!
Y'all be safe. NO freight is worth a "preventable."

Today is Thanksgiving day. I'm sitting on the couch, with my family and best friends, waiting on the final minutes of the Turkey and our great meal. I can't believe Detroit is kicking on Green Bay!! I gotta leave out Sunday morning to head to Pittsburgh for a Monday morning delivery. I went out to my truck today, I already have a preplan for next week. From Pittsburgh to Carlisle to Nebraska. Pretty cool. I hope y'all have a great turkey day!!
-
Well, here I sit. Waiting to be unloaded. Ho-hum (yaaawwnn). I sure am glad that I left my home yesterday, in order to be here at the consignee, in Pittsburgh, for my 0500 appointment. Let's see, its 0730 and they still haven't even TOUCHED my truck. Yes, I'll send in my detention macro, that's NOT the point.
However.... I would rather be waiting for the customer than to be late for an appointment and get a service failure!
I've been given a lot of thought to quitting glass and switching to pulling vans. Reason being, in a van while loading or unloading, its break time! Anyhow, when I get unloaded here, I'll bounce to Carlisle PA to grab a load and take to the farthest northeast corner in Maine, just across the border in New Brunswick Canada, for a Thursday delivery. That will make a whole 1892 miles for the week. Another reason why I've been considering switching to vans, for good high miles. Maverick recruited me to be home every other weekend, and get 2300ish miles every week. I stay out 3-4 weeks, and still don't get 2300ish miles per week. WTF??TDriver4Life Thanks this. -
Wow! Time flies when your having fun. I'm sitting back at the house. Seems like yesterday was Thanksgiving. Can you believe Christmas is almost here? I started Maverick in March of this year. It doesn't seem that long ago. My truck is flawless. I have no complaints on that. I keep it looking as good today as the day I got it. However, I have a huge problem with the drivers not taking care of the trailers. I have picked up 4 out of 4 that needed maint service. I swear, if I ever "catch" a driver leaving a bad or broken trailer, I will call safety so quick you won't know what happened. There's no excuse for that. That is NOT the "Maverick Way."
-
I'm lucky in that i pull the same trailers a lot (3 trailers between 2 drivers on the account) but i still pull some otr trailers. I can understand drivers not wanting to stop and get something fixed (light out, ect) but it is just lazyness to not put in a breakdown when your dropping the trailer and red tag it. It gets fixed and it cost the driver hardly any time. Hell the drop yard in spring hill is now owned by a truck and trailer repair shop. they just walk 100' feet and fix what ever is wrong.
-
Sounds good Kyle. When I pick up a "broke" trailer I'm not willing to risk getting a ticket, or CSA points on my license, for a stupid problem that somebody "left" for me to deal with. I'm not wired that way. I can not and will not turn a blind eye toward a problem.
With that being said, glass drivers, you have been warned! -
Hey Guys. Hear anything about there being more glass trainers soon? I have been waiting to go to orientation since around Oct 25th and still no idea when I get to go to NLR to get started. I have been on unemployment since late sept and now unemployment is pushing me to take the Job offer at TMC because they can get me there next week. I want to hold out for Maverick but cant be with out the unemployment benefits if it goes much longer. Any suggestions?
-
Mike, you can be impatient and go to TMC if you want. I've been there, done that. You cannot compare the two companies. They are as different as night and day, in my opinion. Stop, take a deep breath, and ask BOTH CARRIERS their breakdown pay, detention pay, weekend pay, bonus pay,etc...... if you take away TMC's ragged out trucks, you are left with NOTHING! But, that's your choice to make. Don't "rush" a driver trainer. Would you want your trainer to rush with you because somebody else is waiting? Again, its your choice. I know what "fits" for me.
-
Thanks a lot for your opinion. I agree with you which is why Im still waiting. Have a good one
Blind Dog Thanks this. -
would they let you start in dry van and then switch? could they get you in faster that way ? Good Luck. times R Tuff.
