Wow because I believe if you #### up and drive drunk that you should lose your CDL? You know DUI is pretty is just as bad as attempted murder. Because its practically the same thing. Don't like it? Don't drink and drive. Then you won't get your feewings huwt.

Calm down mje!! He never condoned or endorsed drinking & driving. He's just stating that he enjoys a few drinks with friends, family, at dinner, etc. Why do you assume that he will be driving? Somewhere, someplace, someone mentioned something about a "designated driver"! Hmmm...what a concept!

I drink beer and whiskey and some other things I have a good time (no drugs never have ever will) but I won't do it if I know I have to drive my pickup or my big truck anywhere for atleast the next day till noon. I will not loose my CDL due to dumb ####.

Best advice in the world: don't do stupid ####.

Woke up this mourning, found out hot water pipe was frozen, got a cup of coffee, set up some heaters and decided I would jump on TTR and see if I could get some information for my 24 year old son, that wants to drive a big rig like his mom, dad, both grandfather's, grandmother, uncles and cousins. Found this thread and thought I would find some helpful information on here but, nothing but two sides of an argument that doesn't help anyone.

All the men in my family are alcoholic's, all of them! Two uncles were killed by their wife's and one died from liver disease. My father drove truck for 35 years, drank whenever he was home, never got a dui/dwi or drank in the truck. I have pretty much followed his footsteps, dumb I know. I look back on my life and sure, I have some regrets but, I am not like a politician that gets caught with his pants down and than apologizes. I don't have any apology's for anyone, I answer to God and my family. I have never had a dui/dwi but have come close. I have never been in an accident while under the influence, at least with another vehicle. I made the decision back in 2007, I think it was, to never drink and drive again. I haven't drove under the influence one time since I made that decision...woohoo, how great am I? The point is, driving under the influence of ANY drug, is dumb, no way around that. That being said, people can/do change, everyday. I know that in my life, if I am doing something that I feel at the time, is ok but, you are telling me I am dumb, the last thing I am going to do is take any advice from you, I already know I made a dumb decision, don't need to hear it from you. People only tell other people they are dumb to make themselves feel better. How about some empathy, civility, or just plane humanitarianism? Don't even think it, yes, for the victim as well, if there is one of course. I hate to hear when someone gets taken out by a drunk driver, especially when that driver has multiple dui/dwi convictions. A driver with multiple convictions, just doesn't seem to care and I have less sympathy for them, less not zero. It is easy to be cold and unforgiving for some but, people respond better to the opposite. That doesn't mean a driver that gets busted for dui/dwi shouldn't do his/her time, just that once they have done their time and show that they understand what they did, don't want to do it again,,than give them a hand, don't condemn people. Seems if they come on here, the best place to come for answers pertaining to trucking, they are showing that they understand they made a bad decision. Just because you have the drive, strength to be perfect, doesn't mean all the other humans do. I don't like to hear about people getting killed by a driver that fell asleep, after not pulling over when he/she knew they were tired. But, I have been there,,,didn't kill anyone, praise the Lord but, have been there. I have made the decision in my life, to refrain from making bad decision, especially the ones that can harm other people. Doesn't mean I am perfect,,lol,,by no means am I perfect. Neither are any of you, remember that.

Now, my son... He screwed up, made a bad decision and is now paying for that decision. I can tell you he has learned his lesson 100%. I am not a person that just give empathy to someone because they are my child..lol, just ask them. He has convinced me, through his own actions, that he has learned his lesson. It is only been 1.5 years since his conviction for a dui and I am just lurking around to see if I see anything. He also needs a company that would pay for his training to get his CDL. From what I have read, I believe he is going to have to wait another 3.5 years before he can get what he needs to be a truck driver. That is find, that is just the way it is. I don't want my son driving for a crap outfit, just to get his feet wet. He has a good job now, he can wait.

I want to say that I think Hurst shows empathy and I believe we all should, simply because we are human for crying out loud. Some folks I think would like to line people up against the wall, in front of a firing squad. My question to you people is; who put you in a position to judge, and convict?

If folks knew how many drivers enjoyed a good smoke on the road,

    they'd mess their britches.

Most likely the same goes for alcoholic refreshments.
