Swift, CR, Prime and a few other megacariers have direct to dedicated accounts.
It's not difficult. Before I decided on what I wanted to do when my contract came up with FFE; I contacted prime about getting on their dedicated Walmart reefer accounts- I was informed the positions come available as drivers leave them, and it doesn't really matter how much experience you had.
You're still gonna pull back-hauls, so while it's not running coast to coast, you're still doing a good bit of unkowns.

Can you tell us what company pays lease operators that a yr?How often do you get home? Are you running solo? All the other lease drivers far as I can tell aren't making remotely that,so whats your secret?
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Sir, I really appreciate the info!
Yeah, I did some math a few minutes ago and figure our instructor had to be off a bit (trolling for students?), and I'm learning that Indeed.com has an agenda to keep people reading their sites. And of course the recruiters lie every time their lips move!
I can't figure why people lie so much to people they will run into again one day, as I believe in Karma.
I was raised old school, there were times in my life when the only thing I had of value was my name, but times are achangin'.
I'm figuring 30 to 40 thousand the first year with no home time, if it's less I have to make a decision.
Piano player in a ##### house or maybe go back to Law Enforcement (I did 3 years during some non flying time).
Pay sucked but love working in the community.
Thanks for setting me straight!!Captain Call and Dinomite Thank this. -

You know guys, the best way to make a crappy driver who is unsafe is to have them run hard and fast without the experience they need to gain.
Everyone needs a break or you become complacent and start forgetting or ignoring things.
One reason why it is a good idea not to promote the stupidity of the revolving door mentality - get them in the seat and make them stay there.Captain Call Thanks this. -
I 100% don't believe ya. GL on convincing yourself you did tho.Dinomite Thanks this.

The major issue i am seeing now days is, people for some reason have the misguided impression that truck driver's make huge amounts of money.
For what ever reason, their chosen profession tanks, they get laid off, or the company folds. They see commercials advertising CDL schools, claiming big paydays.
Then they see news reports of huge shortages for truck driver's and how great the pay is going to be because they are in such demand.
The only true shortage is, companies that pay above scale for the type of work a truck driver does. We are classified as unskilled labor but have one of the most regulated jobs. We are up there with airline pilots, train engineers, and ship captains. The only more regulated are doctors and nurses, and their hours aren't regulated.
I don't discourage anyone from trying this job, but it's not like Claude Akins "Movin On" or Kris Kristofferson's "Convoy" movies.Last edited: Dec 21, 2013
Captain Call, Dinomite and Germangirl Thank this. -
Thank you everyone for your posts. I have learned a great deal from this thread.I have two new questions:1. Would your answers be different if I teamed?2. If I teamed, would I be able to run solo while my teammate took home time. Thanks in advance.CC

I am doing this from my phone and it's a pain, but I will give it a shot. I have tried to remove personal info, and these are screen shots from my settlement emails. I'm sorry if they are small.
I am paid weekly, and all of my expenses are taken out except taxes from the company.Siberius Thanks this. -
1) If you team, you may get more miles but keep in mind, the pay gets split in two. Meaning, you and your team partner earn 50% of each other's miles. And the Pay-Per-Mile can be as low as 26 ct/mile SPLIT to give an example (that is how much my employer is paying their company teams at the moment - do the math, that is 13 ct/mile paid per driver. Compared to, when i started with them a couple years back, i already had 33 ct/mile Solo, as new driver.)
2) I dunno if companies let you do it but you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot.... because you won't be able to do team runs alone, the dispatcher has to set the truck on Solo Miles.Captain Call Thanks this.
