Somebody here at the forum claimed to be cheating the E logs ...

You can't truly cheat the E logs and not be found out from my experience.

Every time you go from one duty status to another it pings your GPS spot and records it right on the duty line.

i can email myself my own logs right off the People Net screen and see this. :biggrin_2554:

E logs are not being put into service to make it safer out here .
They are being pushed by the mega companies saying it is about safety .

But they are just another step in the dumbing down of the driver pool .
Just like the automatic truck it is one less thing to teach a newbee to do .
Just look at all the logging questions .

You can cheat any system out there .
It just takes knowledge of how the system works and what you need to do to trick it .

As far as cheating goes you can still drive over hours on E logs the same as paper logs .
Your company might send you a letter but if the DOT don't catch you in the next 7 days you don't get a ticket for it .

There are always changes in this job for 33 years I have heard this or that is going to be the end of cheating and outlawing but it still goes on as we speak .
As long as there are laws we will have outlaws in trucking .
Technology Might make it easier to catch the dumb ones .

Paper logs don't make you a cheater any more than E logs make you a safer driver .

True, it is being pushed as safety, though it has nothing to do with that. No it is not about dumbing down drivers. Yes, it is about monitoring compliance... pure and simple. Since so many can't seem to keep their act together, this is the result. If there had not been so many log violations done by dumb drivers, we probably wouldn't be at the junction. I have always been amazed and the log violations during those 72 hr blitz episodes. What? Like those idiots couldn't figure out the risk of being inspected was greater and they couldn't do a log properly? Face it, a large portion of the e-log push is because of mental pigmies behind the wheel. We are our own worse enemy. Nothing changes.

    I love the E logs. :yes2557:

Small company I am with has tightened up their operations and is becoming so efficient it's amazing.

Don't understand why a lot of people are upset at the new rules.

May have to start a new thread on that topic.

I am in the same camp, so to speak. The carrier I am with has done a stellar job at streamlining the process. Things are scheduled much better. I have far more input than ever before in the load planning, staging, and delivery appointment times. Loads are scheduled in advance, so that it is more rare to be sitting, after getting empty, before heading to the next load. Relaying loads has become more prevalent to enable drivers with different HOS issues to maximize their time available and set them up for loads that fit better with their available hours. Have to tip my hat to the people that keep this going well.

The problem is that none will admit the laws are put into place to protect us, none of us admit to having problems focusing on driving, or drifting out of our lane, or thousands of other things.

I am no angel, but the laws of service for the most part are to protect all of us, and you are not safe 17 hours into your day, but trying to argue this is like convincing a drunk he should not drive.

I just pray that when you experience a situation that convinces you, you do not take anyone with you.

God Bless and be safe, the goal is everyone gets back home.

I think what we mostly mean by "cheating" here is editing our logs to minimize on-duty regardless of DOT regs or our particular companies' policies. I have an LTL gig and all my stops are edited to 15 minutes or less. This saves me about 7 hours per week. My company tells me not to do this but ignores all such violations of their stated policy. I think this is typical.
