"Bessie Sue" or just "Baby" I also have several other names for mine depending on what exactly is broken and where she let me down...I'm just sayin'
@379exhd, When I started driving everybody waved at everybody, and I catch my self still doing it, but now(after 30 years) I think I'd rather they just keep both hands on the wheel.

HEY B and B- It never was like that. I waive a lot of times, and only get strange looks. Like you, and a lot of other older drivers still give the "thumbs up" or waive. This year, my Miss Sarah got me in trouble for the first time. My wife of 32 years says, "it seems you love that truck more than me". Of course, I used a bad choice of words, and replied, "I a different way". Needless to say I'm glad McDonalds was not far away. Mike

Wow, what do I like?
In no particular order;
I like the open road, have always been a "lets go for a drive"guy, I can get home from 2 weeks on the road and can't wait to go for drive ssomewhere.
I like to independence of my job , I do it well and I am respected by (and respect) my FM so she takes care of me (good miles and my fav lanes) and I take care of her (solve problems on my own and take the odd load she can't get done by the whiners)
i love a full moon summer night, fresh coffee and 500 miles to cover.
I like the tax advantages of being an O/O and having a limited company. $$
i like taking time off when I want.
I like sleeping in my truck (kinda like a camping trip every week)
I like taking the road dog on a walk in new places or even familiar places.
I like the comaraderie you get from other drivers, tho this is sadly going away and seems to be limited to older guys like myself.
I'll stop here!MACK E-6, Truckergirl0720, gpsman and 1 other person Thank this. -

Once upon a time what I liked about trucking was my dispatchers, seeing different sites.Never in the same place twice.Meeting people, being my own boss lots of Walmarts. The weekend long loads and not having the QUALCOMM go off much. But now trucking is trucking and just another job.Companies use to be a lot of fun to work with every dept. Now they're too much into themselves not caring about drivers. So to me trucking is just a job.Never use to be like that.

Still love rolling through sleepy little towns. It's the one aspect of this job that hasn't gotten old to me.

If I wasnt on the CBI had a audiobook going....I rented several at a time and would listen to the whole thing or 2 during my 14! that and other drivers kept me going!!Steve D Thanks this.

Guess I'm pretty lucky since I've listened to so many audio books while driving even while pulling oversize and the times pulling doubles.
But especially at night, it keeps me better awake and alert vs. tired and sleepy.
I think you might be quite surprised to how much it can help vs the boredom making one sleepy.Steve D Thanks this. -
My favorite thing about trucking is that I am getting the hell out of it! I should of done this a long time ago!

How about, trucking is one of the few fields, that one can get non stop work, yet take little time off and the yet there is always more freight and more carriers wanting drivers. Pretty much job security even in a slow economy.
And a career that is quite easy to get into with lots of travel.
I'm not saying it's the best job out there, but it's really has a lot of perks.
How many other kind of jobs, if you get tired of the boss or company, there is plenty of other carriers to begging to hire you immediately.
