Packing List for Students

Hmmm...you might have a point...I didn't go to a team training company...when we did run team (my choice) at the end, I would take the stuff from my top bunk and sleep in the bottom bunk.

 

So an air mattress might be a good idea then *chuckle* It's a twin, fits in my backpack and only takes up as much room as say... a large laptop! And the inflator is pocket sized, uses 4 D batteries, so it won't depend on truck or electric power to run it. (in case of a break down!) I plan to just roll it up in my Bedroll like a blanket with my other blankets and strap it onto my backpack just like when I went camping.

 

Mamawolf, most trucks I've teamed in have two bunks. However, when running as a team you always sleep in the bottom bunk for comfort and safety. For that reason when you are training it is recommended that you bring a sleeping bag, it's much easier to simply lay that on top of whatever bedding your trainer has on the bottom bunk. If the truck isn't moving then you will likely be sleeping in the top bunk and the trainer in the bottom bunk.

Regarding bringing an air mattress, it might be problematic as the top bunk will already have a mattress. Also, an air mattress will be cold because the any cold air will be coming right through it. I would recommend you go to a camping or backpacking store and look into getting a Thermarest pad. These are self inflating with open cell foam sandwiched inside for insulation. I've slept many a night on a glacier with one of these. They will insulate you very well, they are very comfortable, they are light weight, and they can compress down to fit nicely in a duffle bag or backpack. I've considered bringing mine to add extra comfort and insulation in my own truck. You won't need any battery powered inflator or have to blow them up, all you do is open the valve and the foam inside makes the pad expand and fill with air. You can blow a couple breaths in after it inflates if you want a firm pad.

 

I second the recommendation for a thermarest (or similar...) product. Depending on how cold the cab gets, an air mattress will actually suck the heat right out of you.

 

I sleep better in truck than i do at home. I love the mattress in my pete. It also has a double bunk which i just use as a shelf for fridge and microwave. I second the idea for sleeping bag.

 

Depends on the price of a Thermarest though. I only had 60$ to spend on getting stuff together (christmas gift money from relative) and looking to have a VERY limited budget starting out. But it will be something to look into when I have some cash *chuckle* I'll just keep the air mattress for camping trips if it ends up too cold or the bunks are comfortable enough. It was only 13$. Thanks for the advice!
