I haven't posted for a while, but here is a reality check on what Central says about income. Their recruiting poster says owner/ops average $47K per year. This is the end of my first full year, with one check to go, and I'm right at $45K so far. There have been some good weeks (best was $2111) and some bad ones (worst this year was $13, but I broke even on just 945 miles). So my vote is that Central is honest. That is no big surprise, honesty is the corporate culture and it comes from the top. You might not like what you hear, but you can take it to the bank.
I just finished the "Train the Trainer" class last Thursday, and headed out with my first student. Hit the jackpot with this guy. He is middle 40's, not a kid, with 5 years' experience driving straight trucks. So he already knows about shifting and steering, what all the gauges mean, and what all the buttons and switches do. Part of that straight truck experience was driving snowplows, that's a huge bonus this time of year. He already floats the gears like a pro, the only new feature is the red splitter for the top 4 gears in the 13-speed, but he is almost up to speed already. His first day behind the wheel he drove 577 miles in the snow, and went down Cabbage at night. Niiiiiiiiiice.4noReason, L84AD8, Arkansas Frost and 1 other person Thank this. -
Let's just hope it stays that way! I have to admit, for all the complaining I do I just checked the final settlement for the year (my first full calendar year l/o) and I netted $60244 pre-tax. I didn't quite hit all my goals, but for all the problems that's not a bad year. I would definitely say that, up to this point, the things central has told me have checked out. For all the horror stories you hear from CRE and Prime, we all know we could have it much worse.
Side note; $50 Christmas bonus! The cynic in me would has so many things to say about that, but its the holiday season, so I'm just gonna be happy they sent me some extra scratch.
Happy Christmas everybody.Arkansas Frost, 4noReason, Buckeye91 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Anyone been to the swift yard in Denver yet? I dropped a load here and man, what a pain, all our central trailers are in the back of the parking lot and you have to do blind side backing. Swift trailers not dropped in designated spots, its so crowded, not sure why central moved here, they barely have open spots for their own drivers. Wish we kept the henderson yard
Arkansas Frost and Lady K Thank this. -
So do we!! Had an upper trailer clearance light out... We use to be able to swing in to Henderson, and within 30 minutes they would have the light fixed, and we would be rolling again... Christmas we picked up our preloaded trailer and an upper clearance light was out... OTRM tried calling the SWIFT yard, no answer. So we got to spend three HOURS at a TA! Not fun...Arkansas Frost Thanks this.

Well I had an eventful morning. I woke up with one of the top 5 worst headaches of my life (and I get some bad ones). Took some Tylenol and laid down for 30 minutes. Not better. Then I got to wondering if it was CO poisoning from my bunk heater, so I shut it off, popped a vent, and went back to sleep for a couple hours. When I woke back up I felt fine (except freezing, as it was 18° outside). I don't know if it just took time for the Tylenol to kick in or if my bunk heater is kicking out CO, so now I'm a little worried about using it without a detector.
Good times.Arkansas Frost Thanks this.
