I'm an o/o and I'm currently leasing my truck from a company with plans to own it when I pay it off. I'm learning this company is unwilling to stand up for what's right. Whatever they need to do to save a buck. I bust my ### to get loads delivered either on time or way ahead of time. I'm making decent money and truck payment, insurance and fuel gets deducted from my pay. I'm good with all that.
When I get a load plan and I go get my pre-assigned load on Sunday that drops on Monday or Tuesday from Kissimmee Fl. to Nashville Tn. They give the wrong combo for the gate. So I request compensation for all DH miles and return home miles. About 190 miles. Now I'm the bad guy for refusing the load.
My inquiry is this, if there's anyone out there who has a truck and trailer and is looking for a driver please message me. I'm a business man, I would like to purchase my own rig and trailer at some point. I have loads of experience and clean CSR. No wrecks, no dui's or anything. Anyone interested please reply with positive terms and hopefully we can get something done. I'm in Florida and have no problem what I haul or where I go, just expect to be compensated fairly

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but you showed up at a customer didn't have the right gate code so turned around and went home?Did you call anyone to try to get the right code? If you took it upon yourself to leave without trying to fix the problem or having dispatch try to rectify the situation it's no wonder they don't want to reimburse you. That's not the mark of a business man.

Yes my friend, I should clarify. I got the load plan mid-day Friday. Tried to make sure all was good by 4:30 pm on Friday. Nobody in dispatch was available. No answer on phone or Qualcomm. So Sunday I go to pick up preloaded trailer at 10am. Arrive at noon. Gate code that was given did not unlock the gate. So thinking it was an error on the numbers and I didn't want to leave the load cuz I needed the money, I tried different numbers. I tried to get with my dispatch via Qualcomm and by phone for an hour. Tried to get my terminal manager on the phone. No one available. I invested time and money into getting there and there's no professionalism on the other end. 2 hours later I get home and requested compensation from my terminal manager when he finally replied 3 hours later. All I get is come see me on Thursday. I expected to be running this week. Not sitting. Not running around with wrong info on my dime. Looking for another outfit that has it together.
And by the way that's not all, the gross of the load wasn't on the load-plan either which I requested. It was only verbal over the phone on Friday morning.

I had a load to deliver in Tallahassee for Friday morning. Got there Thursday night. Unloaded before 7am. Dispatch knew I would be empty and still held out for 3 hours. Then gave me a load plan to pick up lumber from Bristol Fl and deliver in Jacksonville on Monday. I live in Orlando so I contacted the cons and ended up dropping that load later on Friday. That's why I got this load plan. I excepted it. Got there and couldn't get in. I did tell dispatch and my terminal manager I could deliver on Thursday. But still, they need to get it right, I feel it's only fair to be compensated for the 190 DH miles. I'm sure u wouldn't hang out all day with combo numbers that "might" be the right ones

when I was o.t.r. as o/o my dispatcher always told me to call him at any hour
& wake him up if I need to. some times I had to, if he wanted the load they he said had to be delivered at a certain time & place. I do not waste my time or money. I do not work for free. some times waiting in line cause there is a dozen trucks in front of you is o.k. with me most of the time. it's part of the business. I have been told many times they will load/unload you when you get there. give me a number to call if they don't. my dispatcher would always get a home number & a cell from the person in charge & many times wake the big boss up at home & tell him his employees will not load/ unload his driver.

when the boss called the shipp/ rec at 2 a.m. you should see the guy's move. no longer with that co. but I liked his type of dispatching. maybe in the future you could get all info on a text along with verbal. this way no one can say you wrote down wrong code, or misunderstood it.

Well it is a holiday week and a good many people are more interested in their time off than taking care of business. I work for a different type of operation but no matter what you do there are going to be times when things do not work out as we had planned. It can be tough trying to make money this time of the year. The terminal manager is going to get together with dispatch to see why your code was incorrect. Maybe the shipper or consignee is at fault and is willing to pay you for your time. Recently I was in a similar situation and I was pretty upset. In the end I was compensated for everything I was due. Things have a way of working out in the end.

I'm a little confused by this but it looks to me like you're in a lease purchase and not an o/o. You also talk about a qualcom which is fairly unusual for an o/o.

So the screwup happened today, correct?

You have 190 total miles invested in this load that you are wanting compensation for, correct? You are in the middle of a lease purchase deal. You live 95 miles from where this load originated. You make decent money. Did I miss anything?

You sure you want to jump ship before Thursday? Cool head, dude. Every one of us has had to deal with a weekend fiasco. Things go wrong on the weekend. Another driver could grab the wrong trailer. The trailer may need to be taken to a shop. You could be over GVW or over axle. The load could be oversized and you don't have a permit. Don't be so quick to throw in the towel...especially if you have money invested in that truck you're planning to buy.

And you have the option to deliver on Tue. also. Sorry, but if you didn't wait till the a.m. to get the right combo, or maybe another driver would have showed up at some point looking for another trailer. I don't get it, this crap happens occasionally, sit tight and deal with it.

    Been there, Done that!

Yeh you are one notch below a company driver. You get told where to go AND you pay for the truck too! Not belittling you just telling it like it is.

So to the issue at hand - locked gate and no one to contact. The simplest solution would be to block any security cameras first and then whip out a 20' chain and proceed to open the gate.

There are more creative ways. Climb the fence, light a small fire and call the fire department and wait for them to open the gate.
