Before we get started with this, Yes, we all know linears are illegal so lets not even get into debate on that.
The topic here is about whether you have your linear in plain sight. I pass or get passed by trucks OR see trucks at the fuel island etc & I see a few that have theirs right in plain sight, sometimes attached right to the cb & mounted on top of the dash or under the overhead console.
I just bought a new Cobra 29 to replace my old Galaxy 33 (which I will eventually get some work done on & put it back in service). Rather than having work done on this new Cobra & having it turned up, I think I am just going to break out the old 50/100 watt box & get my boost from there. So, I want to know how you feel about just mounting the linear to the CB.... mounted under the overhead console.... in plain sight.
Do you do it? Have you ever been called out or asked to remove it by anyone including DOT or Highway Patrol etc?
Gotten into any trouble OR any problems at all?
As always, thanks for any relevant input...

I have a 500watt under my cb in plain sight in my kw. Never have had a problem
Grumppy Thanks this. -
Awww, come on now, some of you guys can give a little advice here....
-
For many years mine has been on the dash. I have never had anyone say anything, nor have I heard of any problems with having one.
Grumppy Thanks this. -
I always kept mine right with the radio. Never had any problems. Only possible issue might be that it is a temptation for thieves, but does anyone even steal CBs any longer?
Never was a big fan of hanging it under the radio when the radio is in the overhead console. Always seemed like a visual obstruction to me.Grumppy, Cetane+ and jessejamesdallas Thank this. -
No one cares if you are running one or not. Well except for a few hams out there that hate on everything. Have mine mounted right next to the CB on the bottom of the over head.

I don't have one but my uncle does and his is velcroed to the top of his cb on his dash.
Grumppy Thanks this. -
IN plain sight just makes you a bigger target for thieves. No one else cares............
jessejamesdallas and Grumppy Thank this. -
Yes it still happens when the thief knows what it is and what it is worth

Most thief's won't even know what one is to start with, and will probably leave it alone and just steal your everything else in the truck not nailed down...Police and everyone else could care less what it is.
Reason I know "Most"thief's will leave it alone, is because back about 10 years ago I had stopped into a local Home Depot with my Suburban and while in the store someone broke into my Suburban, and stole all my tools, a box of CD's, my old wore out leather jacket, sunglasses, a 12 pack of Coke sitting in the back seat, but never even tried to take any of my CB stuff, which included a Davemade 1x4, Davemade 16 pill, the Predator 10K antenna's or the 16v racing battery's sitting in the back that are hooked to the 16 pill...
Total loss for what they took was less than $200...Cost of stuff they left behind closer to $3000...go figure...Heck, think I paid close to $300 for each of the battery's alone.
What I figured happened tho, was I have a sign on top of my battery box that say's "Warning High Voltage", and then there's all these large welding cable wires coming out of the box to the Amp's so they were probably scared of getting electrocuted and left everything alone!Cetane+ Thanks this.
