Also keep in mind, most ports and ask military bases do not allow civilians to have firearms on them, Or in there vehicle. Lock box or not. We had a contractor get arrested and his truck impounded for showing yup at a base with an antique handgun, locked in a box, in his tool box on the trailer.
Is it unlawful to carry a hand gun in the truck

Can you provide a pertinent rule, regulation, or statute on this (the hazmat part only, not Canada border)?
We have "claims" going in every direction imaginable on this topic, yet no one seems to be able to back it up with hard proof.
Not saying definitively you are wrong, but I do highly doubt any regulation/law exists for firearms & hazmat.
Note to everyone else: If you're going to claim this or that, please provide a linked source. -
Didn't we have a member that offered a reward to anyone that could produce these statutes? IIRC, it was several years ago and no one has yet to collect.
-
I dunno, Joetro. I haven't been on TTR that long, but that offer/reward seems very likely.
Topics like these will gather all the posting prefaces like "I believe... I think...", or the bold ones who just outright claim fallacy as fact.
The bottom line, since there are such widespread differing initial claims (most are dead wrong), is...
if their claim is fact, then it should be very easy for them to find a link to the regulation/law source. So just post the source.

Additionally, the lovely state of New Joisey has funky rules on hollow point ammunition. Something along the lines of you can buy it, and transport it straight home, or buy it and take it straight to the range, or go from the house straight to the range with no intermittent stops.
I have taken my unloaded and locked pistol THROUGH the state of New York...but I was not stopping to pick up or drop off there. Then federal law pertaining to freedom of movement comes into play, which supercedes state law.
As you can see, there are a lot of nuances on the local, county, state and federal levels. Best to do lots of homework depending on where you will be running. -
It isn't illegal to have a gun in a cmv. I looked into this several years ago myself. However, there are some states that have laws concerning owning or possessing guns, such as the communist state of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. Military bases to restrict having guns on the base, which I find ironic. Most will allow you to check them at the gate or other facility. It would be best to check with them prior to getting to their gate.

If one has an Ohio CHL (Concealed Handgun License) or another state's license that has reciprocity with Ohio, it is definitely NOT illegal to carry in a CMV. There aren't any statutes or laws on the books regarding this besides the CHL laws which cover carrying concealed and the laws regarding transportation of a handgun without having a CHL, unloaded, separate from the ammunition (requiring one to leave the vehicle to put ammo and weapon together), etc.. none of which specifically mention a CMV. I called the Ohio Department of Transportation to clarify this and was told that the existing laws cover CMVs as any other vehicle.
Some states, mainly communist east and west coast states have no provision whatsoever for allowing one to even having a handgun in a CMV or any other vehicle for that matter and having one in a CMV will get you arrested if found.
My advice would be to know the laws for every state one travels in and have a lawyer on retainer if one plans to carry because even "good" shoots will tie you up in court for some time and have your weapon confiscated in most cases. It's really a sad statement on our nation that one has to worry about getting charged with a crime for defending oneself against the scumbags of the world. Just maybe if we stopped coddling these criminal scumbags, treated them much harsher, and allowed folks to actually defend themselves without being charged or sued into poverty we wouldn't have as much crime in the first place.bowhunter3714, SheepDog and Joetro Thank this. -

Out of the 11 plus years I've driven, I've only had my truck searched one time, and it was at a military base. Searched inside and out. Scooby do and everything.
