To the OP...practice and listening to engine RPM will get you where you want to be. As someone mentioned before, I can gauge my fatigue by the way I am shifting.

One thing for sure, it's no fun to have the clutch brake fail with an auto-shift trans.
There's no way to get it into gear unless you are lucky enough to be parked on a grade and can start rolling forward.
At least with a stick you can put it in gear before you start the engine, can't be done with the auto-shift because they won't start in drive.

    This is from eaton/fuller...

For easier and faster gear engagement, some Eaton® Fuller® transmissions
may be equipped with a Clutch Brake. This brake is used to make initial gear
engagement into 1st or reverse while the vehicle is standing still. It can also be
used while upshifting to help complete the upshift under adverse conditions
where vehicle road speed rapidly slows down. For instance, when accelerating
up a hill from a standing start.
The brake is applied by fully depressing the clutch pedal to the floor board.
When applied the brake slows down the transmission gearing. It is a disc-type
brake incorporated into the clutch and transmission drive gear assemblies.
Never use the Clutch Brake when downshifting, or as a brake to slow the vehicle.

They have added that you can use it under adverse conditions for upshifting but I do not recommend it as it wears the disk quickly.

Sorry to get off of the subject here OP but think this is something that you should know.

One small favor please sir, please don't change a quoted post when you quote one. It's makes it hard to tell who's saying exactly what.:)

I'm sure delighted to read this.

    Exactly, because this DESTROYS them.

This is the most accurate statement I've seen form you here.

If they make YOU by a replacement clutch brake you won't do that anymore, will you?

This statement is appalling. I'm sure glad you're not working for me, because you wouldn't be anymore.

Okay, define "awhile". Would that mean a week, or a month? Because that's how long a clutch brake will last doing what you've described here.

No need. Just look in Smokin's post. Now show me where it says what you're doing is recommended.

Please, DON'T continue to poison the minds of rookies with this bilge. They deserve much better.

I'll buy the clutchbrake for him, they are cheap. What I want to see is him paying the transmission r/r to put an oem style brake in.

In my part of the country, the part is about 25 per cent of the hourly labor rate.

I don't think cabwrecker (should change it to transwrecker, btw) even knows what a clutchbrake is, and at what pedal position it takes for it's friction/engagement.

    He says in post #24:
A "lil tap" is not how to engage a clutch brake, unless you're holding your clutch pedal an inch off the floorboard, and he considers that final inch "a lil tap".
Anyhow, his entire quoted line makes about as much sense as a bull with ta-ta's.
Probably one of the most unprofessional and damaging ways of driving I've seen posted in quite awhile, also.
Be real nice if his employer or mechanic crew saw his posting. Can you say... "immediately unemployed"?

Johnny, just relax and understand that we all grind a gear from time to time. I've been in my current truck for 5 months averaging about 9k miles a month and there are days when I sound like an entire class of students. :(

Good Luck soon to be "driver".
This is just the first step of learning this part of the business.
Happy and prosperous new year to you.
