I've only been checked twice for my tandem settings. Once at the EB scale on CA58 near Tehachapi and at the I95 SB scale in Connecticut. Both times I was allowed to keep going.

I rolled through GA with the tandems almost all the way to the back with no issues before.

In CA you can go over the max. kingpin setting. It just cost more $. Annual permits for cities/counties are $90/yr. The reason for a short kingpin setting is off-track. I ran a HH 49 ft. kingpin setting in CA town,it did not fit well making turns. Will back @ it this coming Summer.

yes, dispatch does bill for miles and what ever.

also ,if need be, reschedule because of delays in loading.

A friend of mine told me that you could legally run in CA with tandems slid all the way back as long as you are on the interstate. I don't know if this is true or not, but I have had them slid a little past 40 at times to get weight right and haven't been pulled in at scales.

You are legal until they tape it. Can you tell the difference between 40' and 42' on a king pin spread? California must not exceed a kingpin-to-rear-axle (KPRA) length of 40 feet. http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/routes/restrict-process.htm

Thanks for the link Stacy. I have been looking for that info for over 2 hours on the internet. I am in a situation that to get under 34,000 on my tandem, I have to be 42' 6". Total weight is 79,460 lbs with 3/4 fuel. Lucky, the load is going from TX to OH. The chart is a great tool when something like this happens. Next time I think I will search here first!

3 holes sounds right, but you could always have rescaled to make sure.
