What do they do to keep the trucks from freezing up under these conditions?

The good days of the Bakken are gone, meaning the cut throats have taken this place down to a level that the fun and the easy money is gone, what you have left, nothing to write home about. Everything from housing to food to fuel to some of the worst winters in the country. I started up here making great money 4 years ago,it didn't last long the flood gates opened up.Let the cut throating begain!!! My wife, started a water hauling business, to date, she is out close to $150,000+++ dollars. It's thick as thieves up here,we live on the Montana side, the crime in the Bakken is getting way out of hand. Towns in this area, are turning into dumping grounds for parolees, due to jobs, where talking scumb bags, child molesters rapist, drug dealers, drug addicts.Dont believe me look it up it's all public record. Please before you come up here think hard, is it worth it? Add up all the costs from housing,if you can find housing,to the insanely high prices of food, clothing, fuel your better off finding somewhere else to survive, because it's not here.I could go on and on.Please think hard fellow drivers.Ill be leaving soon, to hopefully find greener pastures. So in closing, think twice about pulling up stakes and rolling this way! This is no place to raise a family, like I said don't let people yank your chain about this place.A gentleman told me not to long ago, welcome to Hell.lets just say,he is not to far off base.

Just good maintenance. Winter fuel. What part of the truck are you referring to freezing? Many parts and systems on a truck.

Now, anyone thinking about coming up here, don't let this discourage you because it's mostly BS.

Alright, it's been four hours so far and no one arguing. I've got to go to work so let me just say what I'm thinking. Prices at Walmarts here are the same as elsewhere in the country. I just drove home and gas here is about the same as other places, less than it is in Indiana. Housing costs are high. Truck stop food is high. Little things like haircuts or car washes can be more expensive.

I've heard about all the crime and bad people up here but haven't experienced any of it in my six months. Mostly, I met people who are on the money trail and because so many people are making what they consider a good wage, I think people here are overall pretty nice. Wages apparently are falling. Even so, I make much more than I would back home.

All the he-man stuff about the cold, the ice and the snow...I'd rather be here than Pennsylvania. One of my most harrowing driving experiences of the last few years was taking a load of milk into Atlanta when the interstate and all the roads were two inches of solid ice. Georgia seems to have no equipment to deal with it and all the way up to Indiana there seems to be a dearth of salt and sand trucks. At least here in the Bakken there are few new roads for me anymore. I know 1804, 2, 5, 85, 200... that's much easier than driving OTR and everyplace is new.

I don't wish to be a bad guy, I'm just trying to have the story told straight. I can understand if anyone wants to bad mouth the Bakken to stem the tide of new drivers coming up here but I think most of us are just trying to help each other. Wages evidently aren't what they were. They're still really good, IMO.

MP3>cb,how long have you been here? 2 months? What I wrote is not BS. Doesn't matter what oil patch your in, there all the same I know been there worked there, this is about as low as you can get.So before you tell people how great it is here, buy 5 trucks and trailers and try to make money it's not as easy as you think. This is no place for a rookie driver to start out in the dead of winter, do you even have a clue how many people have been killed up here because of inexperience.Walmart prices are higher here, this is the only Walmart in the nation that the manger can set prices, supply and demand, don't believe me go ask the store manger. Next go on line and check, everything I said federal, state, local, about this dumping ground for the scum bags. Now go to a regular store and buy food, and tell me you aren't paying 25 to 40% more then back in your home town, now go out for a meal and pull out you wallet for subpar food and service.this is just the tip of the iceberg.. So take what you make and subtract all your expenses and really what are you sending home. Uhmm. So next time you open mouth and tell these unsuspecting newbies that all is great and wonderful check yourself at the door, you think you have a secure job here your sadly mistaken, tomorrow or the next day your company will be under cut on price,it happens everyday,I don't care if you work for Power Fuels,or Hamm Phillhps,Mo Basin the list goes on and on there is always someone who will do it cheaper. I started out making $140 a hour per truck,4 years ago. now your lucky to make a hundred, the per barrel rate is even worse.. You also failed to mention that you have to spend a substantial amount of money on FR clothing. So add up what you really make and what it takes to make it, and ask yourself is it really worth it. Ask others most will tell you no. Time away from your love ones comes with a price. So please check your sources,

I guess what the bottom line is really take a hard look before you come here..when the newness and the excitement wears off and your paychecks start bouncing which also happens everyday, and you freezing your butt off,or come spring your stuck in the mud or in the ditch,or your truck won't start,or you fell on the ice for the 3rd time this week,or your valves are freezing up,or your load of production water freezes up and the disposal is also froze up,yes salt water freezes..or you get caught overweight and you have to pay the fine right on the spot, because ND doesn't recognizes other states and your expected to have the thousands of dollars in you pocket. Or better yet nobody tells you the county roads are shutdown and you get caught, how much does that cost you?you really don't want to know,it's very ugly!!!!! So do your homework, your better off going to Tx.
