I HAVE HEARD ALL things said about many companies BUT in the end Werner Enterprises is the best as people friendly, new driver helpful, learning needed things!
At Swift they are mostly family & THEY DO hold grudges & offenses - I know! Swift may be # 1 (Werner #4) in the nation but not in certain other things!
At Werner they over-looked most of our newbie stupidities as long as we did not LIE about things! They were always VERY friendly & helpful with many things and yes they did have their stupidities too - everyone does! Loved the Georgia & Dallas terminals tons - close knit kind of groups there. Qualcom information & directions were way better then other companies! Drop -n- Hook is easiest here and the easiest for newbies TILL they get their feet very wet & more experienced!
Overall - I send A LOT of people to Werner for their "start" & then 'they can choose' to change to something else if they decide to later after 6 months to a year preferred!
Werner BEST for Newbies!

I am a current Werner driver and to start out and get your feet wet yes they are great. Some awesome trainers are there. But since I quit training students myself my pay and miles have bottomed out im lucky to get 2000 miles as a solo Orr driver
TruckingWolf Thanks this. -
The more exp the less miles and pay.Thats how they work.

Werner is a good company for students. You do a lot of northeast and do learn a lot.But don't start there with dollar signs because that's not going to happen. You go there mainly focusing on getting the exp.

Best for newbies...if you like being paid slave wages. .26 per mile is slave wages. I started out of school for 8 cents more than that, and I've had a lot of mistakes overlooked too, and have only dealt with a pushy person in the company one time in my year and a half here.

I took the jump.. after painstakingly takining time and effort to avoid going to a training company I got on with a small family owned company.. it was horrible.. I ened my emply with them Just before Christmas.. was out looking at companies and just did not feel like filling out another long app.. having already been approved by Werner I called them.. Figured i would just grin and bear it and get some training and experience...
I must say.. I am very pleased.. I started orientation Wed Jan 1.. very pleased and impressed with how it went.. they had me a trainer before my last day of orientaion.. So I went right from orientation to my trainers truck... my trainer and I are a good fit.. And, she not only has experience.. 16 years.. but skills.. not only a skilled driver.. but great and teaching and explaing things to me..
Werner kept us very busy yesterday.. she is on a dedicated account and we do a lot of drop and hook.. as soon as we sent the message over qualcom that we compled our load we were assigned another.. We rolled into the truck stop with only 8 minutes left on our 11 hours, because I am in training we can only run solo miles for now... When I am in the driver seat she is in the passenger seat observing my drving, guiding and teaching.. When ww are dropping a trailer or hooking up to one or doing a pre-trip she is right there.. so I do not in anyway feel that I am being used as cheap labor.. I am finally get good quality training.
Also.. having come from using paper logs.. loose leaf at that.. I had apprehensions about the qualcom.. however.. it is easy and time saving.. and acually gives you more time to drive and be legal.. it is so much easier than and take far far less time then paper logs and as a driver it allows me to maximize my time.. it takes me 15 seconds (if that long) to change my duty status.. werner wants every driver to know how to use paper logs and log properly.. so in cas the qualcom goes down.. so, in training I have to also complete a paper log.. so, I do a paper log as well as the qualcom.. take way longer to do the paper log.. especially if you log it just like you are doing it.. I get more time with the qualcom, beacause it is very easy to go off duty for 15 minutes to run in to the restroom or all the other 15 minutes of off duty I can grab.. giving me more time to run more miles and make more money.. and do it legally... also, with qualcom.. no more having to write and record the mileage at the state lines..
And.. the equipment.. wow.. my trainers truck is awesome.. newer, clean and well maintained... werner has newer trucks.. at orientation there were new trucks getting ready to be assigned.. Werner has nice equiptment...
I am very pleasantly suprized by Werner.. the people have been greart and they actually over delievered on what the recruiter told me.. -
good deal, keep it up and drive safe.

Nice to know you're pleased with how everything is going thus far.Once you get qualified, you'll be getting a real nice trk.

Thanks I really am pleased how it has been going.. and, I do like the qualcom.. no more having to draw all those lines...
In orientation they put us on the simulator.. those simulators are pretty cool.. I did get a little motion sick at first but it went away... they are a really good tool for learning.. and fun too...
Also, during orientation we got to look at two awesome werner show trucks... wow, they were chromed out, built out and just awesome.. pretty cool to look at if you are into trucks.. they also have a museum which I didnt get to check out but plan on doing next time I am in Omaha...
Pattyj.. I am looking forward to getting a nice truck.. having come from a small company that kept their trucks running.. but got all the miles they could legally on the tires and then put on more miles.. it is nice to be in a newer well maintained truck...1catfish Thanks this.
