I think you may have missed the point I tried to make. We are already being used as a reason for higher prices, so if the rates would match the price of fuel, it would further drive up prices in the store, thus giving the shippers more to blame on the transportation side of the process.

I do not think any part of my statement said we should not be entitled to a raise, wether it is a rate increase or a cpm increase. I am just pointing out that goods are probably rising at a clip far higher than inflation, and we must do something to stop the cycle of taking more and more from working people just to see it end up in the hands of big oil, and big corps. We should all be able to live a decent lifestyle on what we earn, but this is not alwaysthe case. Plus i have read several places in this thread about trying to "get the word out", I guess even trying to help out on here opens you up to critcism. I am earning pretty decent rates, but not everyone is, so rather than worry only about myself I want to do whatever I can to help other truckers.

For those who pm'd me I apologize for not responding. I am new to this site and did not realize I had to have 50 posts first. Anyway I sincerely hope everyone doesn't start attacking each other and forget that we are all in the same boat. I have 12 trucks and 16 owner-operators and I will park my trucks next Monday for the 24th. I read on someone's post that it is illegal to shutdown and that we can be arrested. It is not illegal to shutdown, it is illegal to organize a wildcat strike or shut down the highways with your trucks. BIG difference! Staying home a day or two or a week is not illegal!!! One more thing, the convoy we are planning next month will have the State Police leading us and we are not out to block the highways or city streets. We only want to raise public awareness about our issues. The date will either be April 18th or the 25th. Our Congressman and State Rep are both aware of this and we hope they will join us. We want to start in Cloverdale, IN and run to Indy. The news media will also be informed in advance. Let's show everyone that we can stick together and get our point across. Thanks and be safe.

Please do not think that you have been singled out for criticism. I have posted several ideas only to have them shot down from several directions. The simple fact is.... if you post an opinion then expect an opposing view. Thats how things get figured out. Several people giving his/her take on a subject.

As to the oil company issues I think our govenment has been on its knees for the oil companies far too long. There is a multitude of alternative power sources that OUR money should be poured into the research and development of that would bring this nations need for fossil fuels down... If the elctrical needs were all met by natural resources then the available local fuel productions would be more than suffiecient to supply the areas where alternatives may not be as viable, like the trucking industry. Personally I just don't see an electric truck being viable.

Air, solar, geo-thermal and water power are in an abundance in this country and our govenment refuses to get on board. Look at all the other countries in the world that have reduced their need for fossil fuels by actively persuing alternative methods. Look at ?Iceland? Greenland?? I get them confused. Has reduced fossil fuel needs by 80%. Brazil requires every car to be capable of running on methenal and every station must supply it.

Switchgrass gives a 13/ethenol to 1/fuel return that can be grown just about anywhere and not cut into this countries food productons. Farmers can have electric generating windmills installed taking up minimal land and enjoying the benefits of another "crop" revenue while still supplying food. I live in FL and everyday there is a tide twice a day. Just stand in the shallows with a moving tide and you can clearly see a hugely wasted and untapped resource for electrical generation. Ever been to YellowStone? Look at all the wasted energy that the earth is providing there. The list goes on and on. I am not a Left wing-tree hugging-toffu eating-Cali-kook. I am a realist and the reality is that our government has been on its knees sucking oil too #### long.

Press the govenment to get off its knees bobbing for oil and get on board with all of the untapped natural resources available to us right here in the good ol' US of A.

the idea that it is illegal to shut down is just one more way that we are kept under control, there are certain things that can be done that are certainly are il legal, but as long as we live in a free society no one can tell you that you have to work against your will, the spin to keep the truckers running for nothing and make them think they are making "good" money is amazing I am also amazed at how many swallow this garbage, wake up folks you are being led down the garden path

The government can tell you how many hours a week you can drive and sort of when you can take breaks. That's it, zilch, zippo, end of subject.

They cannot force trucks to move unless parked illegally and then you just have to find somewhere else to park. If you are # home or the truck is in the company yard there is NOTHING anyone in government can do about a strike or shutdown. That's like saying the government can tell an o/o when he can take a vacation??????????

Our company is giving us a 39% FSC in two weeks, we are getting the FSC for 2 weeks ago THIS week, therein lies the problem. Fuel is going up so fast that the FSC just can't keep up.

Put a pencil to it and see if you are even making driving wages this week? Or are you putting more wear and tear on your truck than you can pay for? Think about it?
