I've met some nice people at CR England but class action lawsuits with current and former employees kind of tell a little bit of a story, just a thought...

I tried to hook up with half of a female team from CR England once at the motel we were staying at while our trucks were in the shop.

How did it go? -
We soaked in the hot tub that's about itdog-c Thanks this.

This has been my exact experience as well-- I mean EXACT to the "T". England gets a bad rap as a company whole I think-- doesn't mean I'm going to stay with them past 9 months though because the pay is horrible. Definitely wouldn't think twice about leasing either-- complete scam.

Never worked for Crash 'n Roll, nor will I ever...but:
I was broken down in SLC, waiting on a bull-gear replacement for my tractor (3 weeks) and I was staying at the Econo-Lodge where England stables it's human steering wheel-holding fodder before packing them in boxcars and shipping them off to the camp with the sign "Arbeit Macht Frei".....
They would all arrive on a Thursday evening - We would watch them trickle in - dirty, unwashed, everything they own tucked into sea bags, plastic shopping bags, old suitcases and/or backpacks. Friday morning about 4 am, they all would be up and about, more or less presentable - waking the entire motel with their incessant, optimistic chattering about this "New Life" they were about to embark on and waiting for the CR England cattle car to come pick them up... What optimism! What Hope flowed in those hallowed corridors of that motel early in the morning!
Friday afternoon, myself and a couple of other drivers that were staying there watched the same herd dismount dejectedly from the cattle car, belongings in one hand and a Grey Dog ticket in the other, curse words and "CR England" muttered in the same breath. Fired for having LIED on their application - or, in most cases - quit because England LIED to them....Out of the 25 or so people that embarked that morning 20 returned each time...
Wow. And people actually LIKE this company and the way it treats its' employees?
Duh!
(As I was there for three weeks, I saw three versions of this same show....)DriverToBroker, Joetro and NavigatorWife Thank this. -
I am surprised they would even get a Greyhound ticket if terminated. Back when I was with CRE there would always be someone begging for money in front of the terminal(s) asking for bus ticket money.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
LOL your post was hilarious. Live the dream, see the world, be your own boss, join CR England!

There's no way in hell I'd be a company driver for CR England simply because of the nanny cam they put in the cabs. My truck is my home, I don't want big brother snooping on me when I blow off steam after getting a #### load, or cursing when some idiot 4-wheeler cuts me off.
The camera recording video out the windshield I don't mind, but the one recording both video and audio pointed at the driver?! HELL NO!!
Sadly, that was a deciding factor that compelled me to lease - lease op trucks had no such nanny cams. Oh, and they happened to have a Volvo 780 on the lot. Gotta love a rolling condo.
So, shiny new lease & finished my first hop of a load with no problems... 2nd load heading from Oregon to Cali, I blow a piston through the engine, leaving a hole the size of my head all the way through the engine block. This truck had 178k miles, mind you.
I wound up getting my truck towed FOUR HUNDRED MILES, directly away from my receiver, to Reno. That tow bill? MINE to pay! Since I had no money in my maintenance account (of course), my paycheck was forfeited as I worked off repairs, towing, and hotel bills (although the engine was under warranty, other services required to get the engine replaced such as the diagnostic were not).
Thus started a 6 month spiral of negative settlements that I could not dig my way out of because I couldn't train since my truck was an automatic. Or so I was told! 4 months into my lease, I was informed that I could take on a Phase 2 trainee for the first 6 months of my lease. That left me 2 months to dig my way out of $6k in debt that had accumulated during those 4 months.
During that time I had 2 phase 2 trainees. One was a driver with 10 years of experience coming back into the industry. He was a godsend. That guy knew how to keep the left door shut and consistently turned 700 miles per shift (yeah, my truck was wide open, I got it that way). I was sad to see him go!
The 2nd was a real gem of a different sort. He barely spoke English (no idea how he passed the test in orientation!) He would call somebody and read off the test questions & answers from his packet, then circle the answer they told him. He followed GPS instructions even when everything around us indicated otherwise (he turned left at an intersection to go to a truck stop when the sign and building were 1000 feet to our right because, "the GPS said!") I had to stay awake during his driving shifts to make sure we stayed on route. One day I dared to sleep while he was driving, and he woke me up a few hours later, confused about why the GPS was telling him to turn around all the time (he had driven 200 miles in the wrong direction). After he narrowly avoided t-boning a woman in a station wagon while pulling out of a truck stop parking lot, I had to report him to safety. He didn't make it past Phase 2, and he took his possessed GPS with him.
Anyway, what really burned my ### was that my DM made no effort to educate me on my options or help me deal with that debt in any way. His go-to line was, "You're in business for yourself, figure it out!" Yeah, I was in business for myself, but when I'm hearing conflicting information from different sources, I should be able to turn to my DM for answers!
As much as I loathed my DM, however, I treated him with respect. Yes sir, No sir, I'm on it sir. The folks in the office are super friendly and helpful if you approach them with a measure of civility. It's amazing what a smile and hand shake will do.
Finally dug out of debt, I turned in my truck before I started going back in the hole due to my inability to train phase 1 students. I was shocked that the IC department wanted me to stay on as a company driver, which I politely declined due to the aforementioned nanny cams. However, I managed to part ways with CRE on good terms even though I did not give 30 days notice on terminating my lease, which is usually required under the 9 month trial lease provisions.
So when it comes to CR England, I can't sit here and demonize the company as a whole, because there are a lot of good people that work there. I can however say that the lease program is terrible.
And drivers that are training in ANY respect right after finishing training themselves? What is up with THAT?
