Tell you DM it's your life, your licence not his. You'll make that call based on conditions and he'll just have to lump it.Jarhed1964, Lady K and Arkansas Frost Thank this.

I always kept my truck stocked with food, tried to keep a month's worth. That way if I encountered a weather emergency or just a 24 hour wait at a shipper I was set. A few times I wound up feeding more then just myself, it was always nice to help out a fellow driver at a time when they needed it the most.Jarhed1964 and Ice Train Thank this.

They see me rollin... They hatin...! Lol. I'm saving a load that's gonna end up screwin my day up tomorrow. Sigh, one day I'll learn. Yeah, I can guide. Student through Denver, in and out of the Swift yard, drive all night and stay up to see that they safely navigate Chi-town. Dohh!!!! So now we're pushing it with our tines. Anybody been through Chicago ways today?
-
Chicago was one of the worse places that got hit. Let me know how it is when you go thru it. Debating if I'm going out tomorrow or not with all the drifting snow. It was pretty bad today when I attempted to go out.Arkansas Frost Thanks this.

I'm saving one too! I lost my 1001 mile from sc to tx and replaced it with one going to pa that will be late. They told me they had to swap because another truck "broke down." The thing is even if I grabbed it right when they called and drove it straight through it wouldn't've been on time, so either he broke down a while ago and they took a while to find a new driver, or he was also going to be late, or some more nefarious option. Ahh well. At least I was able to find a parking spot near Charlotte around 2200. Little miracles, eh?Arkansas Frost Thanks this.

wow its cold. never seen so much trucks cars broke down, accidents, people stuck. i80 in indiana shut down, i65 shut down. and many central trucks are waiting 2 days for repair to come to them. 2 guys today have to wait 2 days but they live in the area so they just went home. this is where idiling is important and being company saves your wallet. lol. but really no one should be turning off their trucks in -17 degree weather. 1 guy did and he got screwed. how he slept? i have no idea. tomorrow is another cold day.
Arkansas Frost Thanks this. -
Yeah, I ran into a guy earlier who had a gelled truck. He said it hit -41 the other night and his fuel gelled with the truck running?! I didn't even know that could happen!! Two hours west of Chicago and the shoulders are still iced over. Movin along.
-
I've never heard of a truck gelled up when it's running. I've been following these posts for quite some time. I suppose all the drivers here drive for Central. Hope I don't sound like a idiot lol. I'm hoping to join you guys out on the road around the end of February. Be safe out there.
Lady K, Arkansas Frost and Doulos Thank this. -
it doesnt gel up when running. the drivers turned the truck off to not idle. i sent a message to my dm and otrm and told them. i am going to idle. my % is going to be high. but 30$ on their part is better than over 2k to fix a gelled truck. if im cold i idle. dont deal.Arkansas Frost Thanks this.
