I removed everything from the sleeper of my 9900 and put in a futon so I could have a bigger bed but could also sit on it as a couch. I had about 3 times the storage and also had a very large frigidare refrigerator/freezer and microwave. To me it seems with just a little thought the sleeper could be so much better. I don't understand why they don't engineer the thing a little better.
Has anyone tried this

never thunk o'that.. but then, I'm not yet exposed to such circumstances.
I like the idea on the face of it, though.
I'm curious - what's the common length of a sleeper bunk (head to foot)? -
Because the idiots who designed the sleepers never had to live in one..
-
You have that anchored down???
-
Anchoring would probably be easy if it had a metal frame, just drill it out & bolt it down. I did it on a boat I owned.
-
You may want to make sure it complies with DOT regulations.
Otherwise, you could find your tractor put out of service and all your sleeper berth hours voided (due to lack of a DOT approved sleeper berth).
I'm not saying a futon isn't DOT approved, I'm merely suggesting you may want to verify it is before calling it a "sleeper." -
I wonder, would DOT approve one of these:
beds in the sleeper?
-
Good point about the DOT.
25 cents, now that's a bargain....... -
It's hard to say what the DOT will do. Especially when you have to comply with various state regs that may be much tougher than federal regs.
The coment about white sheets reminded me of a crackdown by the CT DOT many, many years ago. According to rumor, they were writing drivers tickets for not having white sheets on their bunks.
Which I have no reason to not believe or believe. I do recall CT was doing one of their routine "raise money from truckers" events, aka "enhanced commercial vehicle enforcement" at the time.
I'd make sure my futon was DOT approved before attempting to use it for or call it a sleeper. Might save time and headaches in the future. -
Hell, if DOT is that concerned for safety than go out to any RV supply and buy CO detectors, smoke detectors; and for those who have those big RV condo-cabs equipped with propane stoves, they have those detectors too.
What if I want flannel sheets instead of plain white cotton? Flannel is warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. That's all i use at home and in my fifth wheel.
