If your on a big trailer having a 50% bounce or more isn't uncommon. That's just what happens. I was taking loads and bouncing back empty to pick up more as I was making enough to do it. My bounces were 50%. It's all about the BIG PICTURE. You may make zero per mile to pick up that 30,000 dollar to the truck load, or you may be making 2.00 a load going to another big paying load. I've even seen it where one deadheads 1000 miles for a 10 mile load.. But the load covered everything enough to where you were compensated well. It's not about that 1 or 2 bad loads that get you lined up to that big paying load.. It's not by the week.. But by the month or the end dollar at the end of the year. People that aren't patient, calm, and can't see past the load they have on.. Shouldn't pull anything bigger than a 5 axle.. Or they will need to go to the insane asylum .

So very true! Since we are not on project work (wind) our deadhead miles are lower than they have ever been. We are enjoying a variety of decent paying freight. The rates are not near what they SHOULD be, but with the glut of OD equipment available to haul the loads, I'm thankful that the rates aren't lower than they are right now! It would have cost us more in the long run when we were doing project work to wait for a backhaul. It was better to just deadhead back and reload and get gone again. The big picture is the only picture for OD!

Daily a good company they will front you half the load and help you with break downs. No here the key to daily if u never hauled o.d loads you start out with regular loads. Then when you ready call your manger and tell will bump up your loads littlt at a time till you are unristricted on o.d after you prove yourself. Now pull a stepdeck and you have less deadhead miles because you can take standard loads to get you where the o.d loads are. Love the middletown ,ohio terminal

I was looking at leasing on to them a while back and spoke to the guys at the Houston terminal.
They said I would be looking to make the same amount of money Im making pulling my flat but I would be pulling o/d. That didnt make sense to me. I figured I could learn the ropes a lot quicker leasing on to a company with a support group but didnt want the headaches of o/d with out the extra compensation.
I wanted to pull o/d for the challange and the extra money not just the challange. -

You need to take into consideration what Triplesix said. Also Daily pays for all permits, escorts, and they have a sliding FSC depending on what trailer your pulling. You might make the same but if you run 2/3rds the miles that is a lot less money you spend in wear and tear, PMs, tires, etc, etc, etc. More money for less work.

It boils down to the amount of money per mile you make.
Then consider your fuel costs also and maintance.
Unless you are on a really great mileage plan, then run all the miles you can.281ric Thanks this. -
I hear what yall are saying. I should have worded myself better. I want to take more money home not work more. I wanted the challange of o/d and the extra money. I was thinking of leasing on and putting my authority on hold and after speaking to the gentlemen there ( the guys were nice as can be) , I thought it wasnt the best route for me at the time. Only time will tell if I made the right choice.

Assuming you imply that the one who did 95000 took home more, I think it's not necessarily true. Hauling OD loads is more costly because of high fuel consumption and additional equipment wear and tear per mile.
