I think if you had contacted the mirror, it would pull it forward, not push it back. Also, if your cam shows you in your lane, then he must have been in your lane, at least his mirror was over the line. Sounds like he would be at least 50% at fault.
Maybe he's just looking for money to keep up the payments on that overpriced pickup.
accident today..

if you pulled left, the rear of your trailer would hit right. If hitting the mirror flat enough it may fold the mirror whichever way is easier (which could be back). Its a mirror. The insurance claim wont be much.

Officers always take the 4 wheelers side.
Check this. I got rear ended at a red light by a lady with a suspended license no insurance and car wasn't hers. My insurance called me and told me they were canceling my contract because I was at fault of a rear end accident Lol. So yeah you need a lawyer chances are your company has one. Use theirsSkydivedavec Thanks this. -
All the way up means forward so you "school bussed" him!

From your description, I would tend to believe you will lose in court. You most likely did hit his mirror. Fighting will cost and you will lose. He says he saw it happen and you said you didn't see anything. You could both be telling the truth and I believe you are.
There shouldn't be more then $300 damage. I would offer to pay it out of your own pocket to avoid any record.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
If your axles are all the way forward your tail swing will be greater. Maximize your turn even if there are no cars there. Mirrors are designed to collapse backwards is probably why they went that way. Your tail swing probably caught them on a 90. His position left of center probably didn't help either.

It takes more than clipping a mirror to lose your driving job. Just move on and "be carefull". Good Luck.
baha and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
IMO and this is only MO driver error. P/U was prolly too close also but that's why you have mirrors. Should of went straighter longer till your trailer cleared auto then swing it.
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
The mirror is probably oriented and designed to fold backward toward the door, because in most cases mirrors are going to come into contact with objects pushing it backwards as the vehicle moves forward. You push on it ~sideways and it's going to fold backward, because it's mounted already leaning backward.Skydivedavec Thanks this.

Let me guess...........Students are NOT taught in these trucking schools about trailer recoil..(What I like to call it) on a turn...
Instructors probably dont even know about it.
Tandems up...You better compensdate for that on tight turns...Cul de sacs, turn arounds in tight yards..etc.
In my early days...I Clipped the roof eeve from the guard shack at the Jim Beam distillery in kentucky......I pulled in the yard turned left but the right rear of my trailer clipped the roof..Minor damage but it happened
Worst part is...You CANNOT see what you hit..Gulf Thanks this.
