Yessir I did , I'm 65 now ..and I knew from the very 1st time I sat in a semi...at 15 with my uncle who taught me to drive , to the day I retired in 2011 that even swallowing 1 beer was considered drinking and driving.....technicalities , you say....don't ask me about them ......instead ask the folks buried in graveyards across this country...lives cut short , kids killed that might have grown -up to cure cancer , become the greatest president in history , or just been allowed to grow-up and have kids of their own...no sir don't ask me...ask them , I'm sure they would tell you with lots of feeling what you can do with those technicalities.....Drinking and driving is a crime that should not be taken lightly IMHO....sorry for being so vehement about this , but as truck drivers we MUST hold ourselves to a much higher standard than most...and be good examples of what to do...not use technicalities as an excuse.

I understand.....but you are failing to understand the gist of my post...

I dont condone drinking and Driving....Agree wholehearted with what Immature people do with alcohol..

What I do, has nothing to do with this thread..........i'll be D@mned though if some know-it-all committee or forum agitator willl tell me whats good for me or not.

    I enjoy Beer..Having a Good time etc..So do Millions of others..But Be 'RESPONSIBLE'..Thats all.

And if If me drinking a beer on my own terms..Whether Im working on my truck or not offends you........I Apologize

Let's take a gander at Why good decent companies if there happen to be any around wouldn't consider a 2 time dui applicant to drive their equipment.

Do to the nature of our job and our DECISION making abilities. A company (good company) would not want to pull the trigger on said applicant. Due to poor decision making abilities in the past, and future litigation. Can you see the head lines. Dinomite Express who is known for showering his drivers with cash, hometime, and great equipment. Hired John Doe who had 2 previous dui's, bad credit, 3 speeding tickets, and at fault in 1 accident. To drive his fleet of K Wopper 680's. John Doe was involved in an accident that involved casualties. We do not know the extent or cause but it's not looking good for Dinomite Express.

Every TV lawyer this side of the Pacific would be trying to get that case even if the 4 wheeler was at fault. The jury would still make us pay a big settlement. This is why Good companies don't hire or try not to hire people with shotty records. Home weekends, and treated good is what you would like. But You might have to lower your standards to 4 weeks out 2 days at home, and low pay. Most don't count local experience or the 6 months line haul. They may even put you with a trainer for a couple weeks. That's just the Facts Jack. We back quiet.

P.S If you are already local. Why not just go fill out some apps, and see what the actual people say. Instead of hearing what strangers are assuming. I'm sure maybe a mid level food service company might put you on since you have experience and may overlook the dui's

    Great post Dinomite......Excellent post.

    Here's the thing though......

THE ODDS DONT ADD UP THE SAME..I'll explain...

You are correct on these carriers being extremely picky who they hire....

The Burning question is.. is it worth it? For 50-60k per year to be a "Perfect" angel in life?? Answer NO

Not worth it......You can go over to the steel mill and work 8 hours per day..make $100k per year with full benefits and retirement...(live a good life) Without being what the trucking industry considers "A perfect angel"

Thats why I have no faith in trucking companies........I work for myself..Keep my customers happy...and I do what i do in life without Anyone bothering me.....

Think about it......being a perfect model citizen in life should DEMAND a whole lot more than what these Large irregular route carriers offer.....And belive me...They offer nothing more than a stressful, dishonest career.

Mickey melon , plase don't take this wrong sir. I'm no forum agitator , not at all , just a retired driver who has an opinion that's different from yours. But, with the post above you're making my argument for me...

The two DUI's are the two on record, how many did you dodge? Or should have had?
We all make mistakes and deserve a 2nd chance. Looks like by getting caught a 2nd time that your 2nd chance is used up

    And agreed. Should have learned.

    mickey,
Those are not just Tony's views, those are my views also, and I would feel safe to say the majority of us share those views.
We lead by example, not by our words.
As for "forum agitator", far from it and a HUGE untruth.

I needed to say that, but I will end it there.

You went a step further.. Once you sit behind the wheel of that truck with the wheels turning with a beer in your hand you are the problem.. You need to get help.. I am right there with ya working on my truck.. I will have a whiskey and coke.. but that doesn't mean I get in the truck and drive the #### thing..... Hell I won't do it if what I am working on requires me cranking the truck..

Yes be responsible.. but what you are doing is not... IF YOU GET ON A PUBLIC ROAD WITH A BEER IN A TRUCK..

    I haven't had a drink since thanksgiving 2008.. Just don't need it..

as far as the original question on here.. good luck man.. you are gonna need it.. I hope you have quit for my families sake..
