Hi everyone. My name is Greg and I am entering cdl school I two weeks. I am 37 years old and have been a commercial photographer for the last 14 years. It is all I know. The office politics and dealing with client attitudes became too kuch and I removed myself from that horrible enviornment. I dou t myself a little. I hope I made a better choice. So far, I am still excited to train at something new. Truckers seem family like for themost part. I hope Im not too old to get into a new career. The last thing I want to do is mess up and be dangerous. Studying the manual all week and hopefully pass the permit test soon. I look forward to listening and learning everything it takes to be a great driver. Talk to you later. Thanks.
Greg.

You'll be just fine in this new career.Have you decided on the type of trucking you want yet? There's good money to be made with proper planning. Go to the top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests" and study for the endorsements. Get the tanker/hazmat, TWIC, and a passport for the better paying jobs. Ask some questions on the "Questions From New Drivers" thread. Welcome to truckin'....
Put your city/state on your profile so we know the hiring area you are in. -
Welcome to the forum. Even if you don't like trucking a CDL is always something you can fall back on. As a professional photographer I'm sure you'll enjoy all the scenery.

Chinatown,
Thank you for the reply and advise. I am very new to this so I would like to get the best education possible. Not sure of all the different types of trucking but im reading a lot. If OTR is what I have to do to start then im fine with it. Trucking just feels right in my gut and im going with it openly. I never imag9lined I could have a chance at this. New drivers are lucky that so many of you guys share important things about te job. In photography, people never share trade secrets because of competitive the occupation is. The practice test are awesome.
I live in San Antonio right now but I want to move to West Palm Beach as soon as I can. My challenge is to find something based out of there. I have family in NY, FLA and Texas. It would be perfect to stop through all areas. -
Condo Cruiser,
Thats why I appreciate all you guys that share info on this occupation. I want to have a trade that I will have forever. For the past decade or so ive felt trapped in photography and nervous about losing my job because of how few and far between studio gigs can be. Hopefully I can keep photography as a pure art then worry about making a living with it. Thanks for the reassuring post! -
I'm a total amateur at photography, but can say trucking has given me some very unique opportunities for pictures. Sunrises, sunsets, people, places. IMO every state has something beautiful to offer and I am always amazed at what I see everyday around this country. Welcome and enjoy.
