Every area has ltl companies with local pickup and.delivery drivers. I am sure there are plenty in Baltimore. Yes, over the road means long haul.
You need to use the search button and look through the threads regarding this. This site is like a colossal research library. Also, google your questions. There is so much more information out there than I could possibly ever tell you. I think there is even a whole ltl section right on this website.
It is my understanding that some or many even of the ltl companies will help you get your cdl. Go back and read those threads. The guys that wrote them work for ltl companies. I do not. I just happen to know a little about how they move their freight and I read that they do train people.
I can try to answer some of your questions when I am on here, but your real learning is in your own research, the threads pertaining to this, and the guys that actually work and have experience with those companies. Good luck.

thx for all ur help

Try contacting Gary at CFI driving school, he can work with you in Baltimore to get your class A. I can't see any point in getting a B, if you're gonna do it go all the way. I would think you would make more money with the welding personally. Have you ever went and talked with the guys at Winklers welding?
-
And you know, you are exactly at the right age. If you can get in with a good company, you'll be all set. Now is the time. -
No jokingypsy I am fresh out of welding school so I have no exp havent checked them out yet. Most companies wont hire if you dont have exp.

Any chance you could work part time for UPS as a package handler? Put in your years, then be offered a package driver job, making 32+ an hour. Great benefits, along with a pension...
-
Rather jump off a bridge dieselgeek, I was a package handler at fedex for 3 months worst job ever, only working 4 hours a day because they wont let you work anymore hours because the job is that hard, supervisors are the worst and yell at you if ur not going 100 miles a hour, I might just go back to welding school since I am already invested in that field but thx for the advice.

It is under "questions from new drivers". The title is "attention all rookies and wannabes". If you have not already, check it out.
It's about working local as a rookie. -
