Can anyone provide some insight on this exemption for me. I have a friend with a Sprint Car Racing Team that would not be driving more than 5000 miles miles a year I'm trying trying to help out with info!

    Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, you have to register for the exemption and then print out a certificate….

Is he like others who use personal (RV) vehicles to haul their cars?

Did the 5000 mile deal go through? I thought it was only 1000 miles and they were working on moving it up to 5000?

The current regulation regarding the 5000 mile "low use vehicle" exemption is as follows:
If the vehicle is driven less than 5000 miles annual total in all service inside and outside the state of California, with the appropriate registration, beginning mileage report and documentation in the truck, it is legal to use in the state of California.
If the vehicle travels more than 5000 miles annually it does not qualify for a low use vehicle exemption, and the 1000 mile per year cap inside of California then governs the use.
The theory was to address the issue of trucks used as an example during harvest season only, or specialized construction equip.
