Its easy, the process just takes a few weeks. Nowadays, a lot of ports you gotta have twic along with other crap like Emodal, or jaxport or something……. almost makes twic card pointless…….

I have had my card for 3 years and have never used it. But I believe it makes you look more Professional. It is an extra $125 or so. Showing up with it impresses some of the companies hiring departments. They don't know that it is worthless in real life but it looks so very official. Like five oh. Book em danno. Not the new series, the old one with Jack Lord.

not "easy". you must go to a service center first. they are mostly in larger citys. fill out the paperwork and get your picture taken. then you get to wait a month or two to find out if you pass the background check, then you must return to the SAME service center to pick up your card. oh did i forget they cost a couple of hundred bucks? in 4 years ive used mine twice. most of the ports require you to have their own port card, so its really a waste. if your company doesnt require you to get one, i wouldnt bother.

I've had mine for 4 years. It expires in 3 weeks. I've used it 2 times since I've had it. I won't be renewing it. It's another money grab to line somebodies pocket. I'll spend the $125 on something more important in my life.

You'll use it more if you pull a reefer.

If you are getting your TWIC just go ahead and get the hazmat too. It's not like you need them every week but you'll have them just in case. Your dispatcher will love you more and you'll be his fall to guy for dependability.

I've been searched before at Gulfport, MS. That kind of makes your TWIC worthless. Why go through a background check to verify one's character then they don't trust them coming in the gate. I told that guard that too. He gave me a dirty look. :)

It use to make me mad our company said we had to have TWIC and you go somewhere and see other same company drivers getting a paid escort because they never got theirs. At least they could reimburse me.

You can do a 3 year renewal over the phone for $60 and pick it up at the office. Just in case you change your mind.

In reefer picking up at the ports, twic cards often get in/out faster. There are not always escorts available.
