Saves me from having to deliver to or pick up at Ports. With all those container haulers doing the Port 500. Plus when I do go to the port I pay 30 or 40 bucks of the companies money to get an escort which I don't even think I ever seen. Only been to the port 2 times in the 4 years I been with the company. Twic 4gettabout it!!

Thanks for all the information i appreciate it...
baha Thanks this. -
I'm a carrier and I'll be renewing mine. Been a while since I've been to Dundalk but it used to be easy to get the broker to tack an extra $100 onto the rate to pay for my escort. They don't need to know I have a TWIC.
-
I just applied for my TWIC. went and got my pic taken and answered some questions. Took about 15 minutes. Got a call 10 days later saying my card was ready for pick up. I either got luck or they are getting faster.
Or mine went thru quicker because ivebhad my background ran 9 times since 2005. EMT in 3 states and the background gets ran at every renewal (every 2yrs) and ccw holder in two states. They have a nice data base on me lol -
If you have a TWIC about to expire,,,whether you want to renew or not, you can get it extended for free, another 3 years.. Google it! Mine expired in sept and I didn't know until Nov they said, sorry charlie,,, So, do it before it expires. If you care that is...

I just googled it. If I'm reading it right I still need to pay the $129 fee. If so, that is what I have an issue with. I can afford it, but based on how many times I've used it (2 times) it's come out to just about $65 per time......not worth it to me when I can get escorted for $60 each time on the companies dime. And if they don't want to pay it then I don't need to go. Sorry, there comes a time when you just have to say no.
Another thing, in the 4 years I've had mine I haven't heard of one instance where a TWIC card stopped someone from stealing a load of roll stock paper imported from China at one of these ports. I can go on, but here's a last bit of my reasoning. It's suppose to be good at the ports, the last 2 years my wife and I have gone on 3 cruises, they leave out of various ports, at the entrance to each port we went to you have to show ID, just for a laugh I showed my TWIC card, they wanted to see my drivers license.Dinomite Thanks this. -
its $60.00 not $129.00 for a three year extension..many oil refiners require the twic card if you are going into the plant beyond the load racks..also have used it at an ammo plant in Scranton

Ammo? Too far above my pay grade, I'll settle for imported Chinese goods. And even then I'll have to think twice about the cost.
