I just got my CdL class A. I just started a local job driving a concrete mixer truck, and the company also has end dump trucks that I will learn to drive too since they are 13 and 18 speeds. My goal is to haul salt water and or mud in oil field and than later progress to hauling crude oil. I was just offered a regional job (just texas) that pays .33 a mile, home on weekends. I don't know which one will benifit me best. Even though I have my CdL A with tanker and hazmat I can't get a job just anywhere I would like since I'm a felon for unauthorize use of a vehicle. Any advice would really help me out. Should I stay with the local job and drive the concrete mixer trucks and end dumps or go regional and haul steel on flat bed? All advice is very much appreciated. -C. G.

You just started a job and already looking to switch??? You probably should stay put at least for a few months

If you really want to work the oil fields, show up and start knocking on doors. Someone will give you a shot eventually. Just be careful what you wish for -- you may get it....

33 cpm is chump change when you bump docks everyday. Don't be a job jumper in hopes of greener pastures. Get you some experience in and some distance on the felony. It doesn't hurt to look but don't move side wards.
Since you're new be extremely careful cornering them short high center of gravity vehicles. Don't forget to take the truck back at night or use the concrete for you a new driveway.

worry about the xperience first, future second. and look into getting your felony expunged from your criminal history if it's possible. cuz that may help with the future.

Stay put for now. Always look to the long run, yours. get 2 year where you are. In the oil fields there's good money, But you need a couple of years experience.

If the company was good enough to put you to work with with a felony on your record I feel you owe to them to stay put..stick it it out give them a couple years learn all you can do what they want then after a couple of years you will look alot better to a descent company with 2 years at one company instead of 2 years at many companies..always be looking but the grass is usually not greener ..dont quit for a compariable job only quit for a job where you are going to greatly improve yourself..job jumping usually gets you nowhere except at the bottom again...plus with a felony you will be very limited for a while..IMHO Id stay put

Most of the concrete and aggregate haulers I've known were fairly happy if they were in the south, and near a metro area that was growing, and were with a decent company.
