Sorry if this is in the wrong place but here goes. Ok Central Refrigerated wants me to log myself in sleeperbirth vs off duty not driving when the trucks stopped. I am a former knight reefer driver so im used to loging line 1 when the trucks not moving and sleeper when i sleep. So which one is legal?

That doesn't make a lot of sense unless you're splitting sleeper berth time. Both are legal as long as you stay in the 11/14 hour rule. Did they explain their reasoning to log that way?

No they just told me to do it that way and said the way I'm used to doing it is wrong. So I am kinda scatching my head here does not make sense to me.

At TMC we were told to log sleeper at shipper/receivers so if we got delayed 8 hours we would automatically get the split. Technicaly for a break at a rest area or trucks stop you should log off duty if not in the sleeper birth.

its not thier way or the highway. if they are telling you that you have to log illegaly they are wrong. they cant fire you or seek retribution because they theoretically can be sued by you. other drivers have made large sums of money in wrongful termination suits. so stick to the law. if you are in sleeper, log sleeper, if not log appropriately.

I guess their reasoning is the split sleeper they don't want broke up in case they want you to run. It's kind of like your parents telling you to go to bed.

Another thought is you have to keep your logbook current to the last change of duty status. When you log from sleeper to off duty you are actually back on the clock. Filling out the log book is on duty not driving! :)

    Picky? Yes!

Do what your company wants. They usually have the same auditor time and time again. They develop a relationship and the company knows what the auditor wants and what they can get away with. Log compliance doesn't like to see lines bouncing around line 1 and 2. If you ever had to go to court for a fatality they point out well he didn't get but a couple hours sleep he got up and left the truck, then he laid down and got up again 2 hours later. He wasn't rested, blah, blah, blah.

A logbook paints a picture. Make your picture look good.

Isn't keeping up to last COD status only relevant when on duty or driving? When n elaogs (which are real time) it doesn't log us on duty for a second when we switch.

Who gives a hot bowl of creamy mushroomy #2. Why can't people just do as told. I really feel sorry for today's trainers. People can not take instruction for nothing. Question everything. I log sleeper even if my truck is in the shop. Dude you are out here to make money. Stop playing with your log book. Sleeper birth unless you are hometime. You can be at the movies. Sleeper birth. Taking a shower-sleeper birth. Taking a nice relaxing dump after a big 72oz steak dinner. Sleeper Birth. In the line checking in for your door assignment. Sleeper birth. Sleeper birth, sleeper birth, sleeper birth. It will do your body good :)

If I inspected you and found that you were logging sleeper berth when you were off-duty, I would cite you for a false log book / Not Out of Service. In other words, it would be a violation but you would not be placed out of service unless somehow doing so allowed you to hide an hours of service limitation.
