You've amassed a lot of experience in your travels from one carrier to another. Have you ever thought of starting your own and utilise the best that you've learned from all these carriers and use it to your advantage?

Wasn't drinking. Obviously for information in the industry. Replying to any post for information purpose of people who are looking for long term information in the industry. It's common sense to reply to anything no matter how old. It's not like a reply gets a response. Do you think these companies change over 3 years of operation or they continue on with there same practice. I haven't seen many managers change in the trucking industry since I've been here. Makes sense that not much changed in 3 years to me.

Maven: You have picked a good handle. A maven is someone who thinks he knows everything! Your posts or maybe they are rants about unions is just a bunch of BS. There are lots of unionized carriers whose drivers make the same as the non union. Fuel and drivers wages are the biggest cost for carriers. Do you really think that one carrier can pay his drivers 40% more and still compete. Of course drivers are underpaid in the OTR sector. If those unions are so great how come they have not organized at more companies? If Canada were to go back to the way the unions controlled everything like 40 years ago the country will go under. They ruined the auto industry. Forced the Breweries to shut down plants and more! I do not see YRC or Penner drivers making much more than other drivers. And YRC almost went under because of the Teamsters. Fortunately the Teamsters finally gave in and YRC will survive. So much for Unions.

I totally agree with you Bruce!

China helped to get rid of unions too. Have you got anything in your house that wasn't MADE IN China?? Think about it. I'm sure a lot of parts in the computer that I;m using are from there.
Runawayscreaming Thanks this. -
China not only got rid of the unions they took our economy at the same time! But I think that if the CAW had not been so crazy many of the jobs would not have gone to the USA. Mexico makes more cars than Canada and with better quality control! I wonder what the statistics are on union membership in Canada today compared to say 30 years ago? BTW: I was looking at a low coolant level sensor for a Cummins. Label was Casco a large USA sensor mfr. But it was made in Tunisia. So now China is too expensive and parts are being made by people living in huts!!!

Very true. And China seems to be the huge unknown. I've got a friend that works for one of the alphabet agencies in Washington, (I can't name it but this thread will show up on his desk Monday am)
that swears that Lenovo computers, which is the Chinese company that bought IBM tech, have a chip that regularly spies on your activity and sends the info back to Bejing. Pretty much like Canada and the US do to us on a regular basis.
Good example of union-busting is GM in Oshawa. They closed the truck plant a few years ago and then rented out the space and equipment to Ceva. They gave the laid off CAW workers 1st crack at the assembly jobs they had, so if you got caught up in the whole deal, you went from $30/hr ++++ as a CAW member to $17 straight. Oh well, life goes on. -
Thanks for the giggle about BLM....Ive heard that. Does anyone know what happened to HOSS????? -
Two companies i would suggest staying far away from.TRUCKSTARS cambridge ont. These guys will suck you in with all there talk. They tell you everything you want to here. They use prepaid credit cards, prepaid feul cards, rental trailers, which means to me its just a way to get you to produce revenue then run they have nothing to hold them from doing so.THEY HAVE NO STEADY CONTRACTS everything is from freight brokers. The worst of the worst loads. They hold back 6 weeks of pay then pay u for 2.They call u and text you 50 times a day no mater where you are.As soon as you finish a delivery they request you head right to a fax machines and fax the signed invoice so they can factor it.RUN RUN RUN.If you break down blow a tire your on your own no mater where you are.RUN RUN RUN.
Second Cargo Direct Missisauga they only pay 65% for local running local ont walmart loads but as you will find out 65% of nothing is still nothing.dancecanyon Thanks this.
