As with drugs, alcohol is TABOO i the transportation industry. With today's laws and attitudes, it spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E for the individual who either uses it or is anywhere near it.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

    Congrats on your sobriety.

The DUI is one of the offense's you can never get removed off your driving record, and they never go away. There is two states California , Colorado that I believe only go back tens years by state law. So saying that I don't know if California or Colorado you could apply to a trucking company from those two states. I believe a lot of trucking companys are only going back 10 years now, another snag. If you were to ever go into Canada they have some real strict rules about USA drivers in Canada that have had DUI's.

I believe if you want to drive a big rig and its been that long ago. I believe you will get the chance if you want it.

Be honest because these will always be on your record.

Congrats on the sobriety. Your only option though may be one of the usual bottom feeders as we like to call them here. But if the likes of C.R. England won't take you, you're S.O.L. I'm afraid.

In this business feelings don't count for much. It's the hard facts that tell the story. This driver hasn't been drinking for 11 years. So he says. How can you prove that because any company is going to think maybe he just hasn't been caught again. Up on the stand in court your liability is going to be questioned if you're in civil court. No matter how great you've been, and I commend you if true, those 5 DUI's are going to end the story right there no matter what. I've seen a few civil suits working for a large corporation where the opposite side see's "Deep Pockets" and they do anything to discredit the driver. The driver is the easiest target and fairly easy to smear the truth. You can be the best driver on earth and forget to make a log entry and the lawyers are saying "can this driver be trusted since he doesn't keep his log book updated"? It's stupid things as simple as that. You're out the door with more problems than you ever had. And you're a good driver with a spotless record for the past 11 years.

There also seems to be another problem here that you may have overlooked. On the job application did it ask you if you've ever been arrested for drunk driving? Or if you've ever been arrested. If you failed to answer any general question like those you'll be found to lie on your job application. So now the companies look and see you lied and you've had 5 DUI's. I'm sorry for being harsh but you can expect this kind of treatment from management. I do believe you that you've been clean for the past 11 years but like I said feelings play no role in this business. SORRY.

Ive heard of guys getting DWI for sitting in their cars listening to some tunes. Or god forbid driving perfectly safely but stopped at a checkpoint. So I'm one to think a guy shouldn't be crucified for getting a DWI. BUT if I were the one hiring Id be worried. What if someone wrecked while driving my truck and they were impaired? And the driver had 5 previous DWI charges??? No way am I gonna take that chance. But that's just my opinion.

in CA: it's not actually 10 years: it's 10- PLUS another 3 ( 13 total) before it "falls off", although sometimes it doesn't which at that point you just call DMV and tell them you want your MVR "purged"

You are asking us what company will take you. I think it is safe to say that none of us know. I would bet that you would have to go with a small truck outfit or a company that owns trucks to deliver their own products.

I do not drink and never have so I have never been in your situation. It would not surprise me if some of those who are casting stones right now are lucky they were never caught after a beer or two.

Having said that let me tell you a story. I got sent to prison by a judge who was less the intelligent. I was running for US Congress at the time. Every prisoner there would come up to me and ask for my help. One guy was missing a leg. The other prisoners use to steal his leg and turn it in to lost and found. About ever third day the loud speakers would announce that a leg had been turn in and if someone was missing their leg to please come get it. At that time the head of the Missouri Parole Board was a woman who was also the head of Mother's Against Drunk Drivers. The drunk drivers were not getting parole. The murder's were but not the drunks. The one legged man came to me and asked me for help. He explained to me that this was the only time he had ever drank and drove. And besides, he lost his leg in the accident. Hadn't he suffer enough? They were making him serve 7 years for a first offense. I promised him, I would look into it.

It turned out, in his first offense, he had not only lost his leg but he had also killed 3 people. One was also pregnant so you could call it 4. I told him that I would be happy to see if I could get his sentence increased. That night, I stole his leg.

I have no problem sharing the road with you if you have changed you ways. I believe that you should be rewarded for your efforts in overcoming something that was very difficult for you to do. I also believe you should spend the rest of you life thanking the Lord that you did not do more damage then you did.

I am sorry that I can't be of more help to you. Other then telling you good luck and stay sober.
