Ive been debating the idea of getting either the 5308 or 5309. It would be nice to have the ability to put 9 on but from what Im hearing your over weight with 9. You can always put 8 on I keep hearing though. The pluses for the 5308 is it is a strap trailer and you can strap from the ground and it looks more fat guy friendly on getting in and out of vehicles. So whats your opinion on which one is the best for hauling new cars? I probably should just go buy a stinger set up though.

Hey Dorsey, are you talking new or used, I do like that CX series, but they ARE spendy.
-
Either one. Id like to own something new for once though. Theres a 2012 cx-5308 for sale now (or was a week ago). Its still expensive but not as much as new.

I am betting most 8 car loads on that CX5308 would be over 34,000 on the trailer axle. Wouldn't think so much on the drives.
When asking one pretty knowledgeable dealer about them, I asked what the complaints were. He said they are heavy ******** & there were some notable differences in how they load(one better for cars, the other for SUV/vans). So like any other time trailer shopping, there is no perfect one out there. Even though they charge like it is. Here is a link to Jakes Truck Shop, better photos than what Cottrell has on their site.

Miller may possibly, might be, could be or has thought about building a 7/8 strap trailer. -
LBZ, So you think the 5309 is a better bet? You could run 9 on it in FL and be legal. Im thinking the 5309 is a better bet.

Resale should be better with a strap trailer as well going forward through the years. Got a quote this afternoon for a 5307 & if signed, the trailer will have a 2015 model year stamp
with a completion time frame for March 2014. Guessing Cotrrell follows the class 8 truck mfg's in terms of build dates. Miller generally follows calendar years.
The old style 5309 looks to me to be a lot of maintenance. More cylinders, more uprights to keep graphite on, more pivot pins etc. Plus, loading that thing will be like swinging on
a jungle gym vs loading/strapping the CX5308 on the ground. Not knocking anyones trailer who currently has one &
obviously knows more about them. Maybe I am totally wrong?
& forgot about the 44,000 lb tandem thing FL has when I mentioned above about not being able to keep legal weights with 8 cars.

Something else to keep in mind, you guys being O/O's I know are careful about what you do, so climbing all over on a trailer is one thing, BUT, going forward, IF you decide to have others running your equipment, I do get a piece of mind knowing that I don't have a guy trying to climb off the side of a trailer 9' in the air with ice on the deck and a 30 mph wind gusts.
Maybe I'm just getting old?
StanH2oburymatt and LBZ Thank this. -
Good point Kansas Transit. But some of the things I see guys doing to equipment they do not own, kind of want to push them off that icy deck at 9'.
Kidding, but there are some idiots out there rolling around in some really nice(or was nice) acting like they are fresh out of the mill.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
Doesnt soneone on here have a 5309?
