It's a MXs c15 at 475. Truck has 788k miles. Previous owner was a fleet owner and not much help. No issues for 200 miles bobtail. I hooked a load to it and test drove it around the block. All was fine. Started pulling up a hill in 8th gear (bogging motor intentionally), the check engine light came on. It stayed on for a long time then just flashed once and staid on. Motor pulled the same. I drove about another mile and it went off. All gauges fine and fluid levels. Pulled load about 5 more miles no issues.
anyone have an idea? I'm about to take it out on the road and nervous.
Check engine light c15, just bought used truck any ideas on code

Depending on your truck. There is a way to pull the codes without a dealer or expensive cel tool. I have a kenworth and when my cel comes on I can pull the code by holding the cruise set toggle switch up. The cel begins to flash. 2 flashes=2 3 flashes=3 and so on. I then check online and find out what the code means. I also have the cat mxs c15. last cel I had was an actuator valve needed replaced.

Thanks. I tried the cruise checking. No light. It's an 06 peterbilt. Maybe all is ok.
-
If the light went out it's no longer an active code, but it will be stored in the ECM memory, you will have to plug in to get it. The cruise thing only works if the CEL is on.
-
Fyi, I did not hold the button long enough initially. Code was a 55. Basically saying no codes. I stopped by local shop where they could hook up and check the truck. Problem was a VVA for cylinder 3.
-
it will be the connector, put a new updated connector with the oil seal on it and you will be fine, and don't bog the motor intentionally
-
55 in no "active" codes if the CEL was still on, it would have given the same code FordFan is correct probably a connector, I've replaced 3 so far, but have also since bought a complete wiring harness for next time, I've got 1.1mil on mine next bad connection problem is gonna get a complete harness, just because I've got a little over half the cost of the harness's in the 3 connector replacements, parts and labor.
-
I done a little google searching on this. So normally the VVA is fine, it's just a bad connector where oil has contaminated?
is it as simple as just swapping out the connector and leaving the VVA? Sure would be nice to fix this myself next time and save that labor rate. -
With 800k on the truck I'd change the whole harness now. ( if you determine it's a connector problem)

Getting 2 flashes. Then code 52, 61. Then 3 or 31. What do they mean?
